Show more

“…Casearia Jacquin represents one of the largest genus in the Salicaceae family, with 180 species distributed across the Neotropics, Africa, Malaysia, Australia, and Pacific Islands . Casearia species are known by the phytotherapeutic potential used in folk medicine once C. elliptica has been described for the treating of malaria and fever, C. esculenta for the treating of diabetes mellitus and C. sylvetris for the treatment of a variety of diseases . Regarding the phytochemical aspects, the Casearia genus has been described to produce casearins, a clerodane‐type diterpene derivative which displayed in vitro cytotoxic effects, including the apoptosis induction of tumor cells and antiproliferative activity .…”

“…Litter production provides important information on ecosystem functioning; in fact, it relates nutrient cycling, decomposition dynamics and soil organic carbon incorporation according to species diversity and structural parameters of vegetation to tree size and abundance in a forest community (Hack et al 2005;Gilliam 2007;Aragão et al 2009). …”

“…Casearia sylvestris Sw (Flacourtiaceae) is a plant popularly known as "guaçatonga", "chá-de-bugre" or "cafezinho-domato" and it is geographically distributed throughout Latin America (Lorenzi & Matos, 2002), also occurs in all extension of Brazilian territory (Felfili et al, 2002;Barbosa, et al, 2005;Hack, et al, 2005). The Karajá Indians from Brazilian prepare a maceration of this plant bark to treat diarrhoea and the Shipibo-Conibo Indians of Peru use a decoction of the bark for diarrhea, chest colds and flu.…”
