-Efficiency in the use of genetic variability, whether existing or created, increases when properly explored and analysed. Incorporation of biotechnology into breeding programs has been the general practice. The challenge for the researcher is the constant development of new and improved cultivars. The aim of this experiment was to select progenies with superior characteristics, whether or not carriers of the RR gene, derived from bi-parental crosses in the soybean, with the help of multivariate techniques. The experiment was carried out in a family-type experimental design, including controls, during the agricultural year 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 in Jaboticabal in the Brazilian State of São Paulo. From the F 3 generation, phenotypically superior plants were selected, which were evaluated for the following traits: number of days to flowering; number of days to maturity; height of first pod insertion; plant height at maturity; lodging; agronomic value; number of branches; number of pods per plant; 100-seed weight; number of seeds per plant; grain yield per plant. Given the results, it appears possible to select superior progeny by principal component analysis. Cluster analysis using the K-means method links progeny according to the most important characteristics in each group and identifies, by the Ward method and by means of a dendrogram, the structure of similarity and divergence between selected progeny. Both methods are effective in aiding progeny selection.

RESUMO Seleção simultânea por índice de seleção em progênies de maracujazeiro-azedoEste trabalho objetivou a verificação da eficiência da seleção simultânea (índices de seleção), por meio dos ganhos genéticos estimados, e pela comparação das metodologias de Mulamba & Mock e de Elston. O trabalho foi realizado na Universidade Federal de Viçosa, avaliando-se 26 progênies de irmãos germanos de maracujazeiro-azedo, para as características intrínsecas da produção, tais como: número de frutos, peso do fruto, comprimento e diâmetro do fruto; e para as características do fruto, como: espessura de casca, teor de sólidos solúveis e acidez. As duas metodologias foram aplicadas, primeiro, na análise conjunta das características do fruto e das características intrínsecas da produção, em um único momento de seleção, e, segundo, na análise em dois momentos, na qual priorizaram-se as caracterís-ticas intrínsecas da produção, no primeiro momento, e, posteriormente, no segundo momento, escolheram-se, entre as progênies selecionadas do primeiro momento, as melhores para características do fruto. 1 CARLOS EDUARDO MAGALHÃES DOS SANTOSRESUMO-O maracujá-amarelo (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg.), originário da América tropical, é cultivado em todo o território nacional, porém as doenças são responsáveis por grandes perdas na cultura. Entre as principais do maracujazeiro, está a verrugose (Cladosporium cladosporioides). Objetivou-se, neste estudo, comparar estratégias de seleção em progênies de maracujazeiro-amarelo quanto ao vigor e incidência de verrugose. Avaliaram-se 75 progênies de meios-irmãos, em novembro de 2006, quanto ao vigor e incidência de verrugose, segundo critério de notas variando de um a cinco. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições e quatro plantas por parcela. Simulou-se a seleção para resistência à verrugose e vigor, por três métodos de índices de seleção, envolvendo os dois caracteres. As seleções baseadas em índices de seleção não proporcionaram resultados conjuntos satisfatórios em ganhos, enquanto os ganhos pela seleção combinada foram superiores aos obtidos pela seleção direta e indireta, porém o índice de Pesek & Baker e Mulamba & Mock proporcionaram ganhos totais satisfatórios. A seleção combinada proporcionou ganhos genéticos superiores aos índices de seleção, caracterizando-se como promissora na seleção de progênies com menor incidência de verrugose. STRATEGIES OF SELECTION IN YELLOW PASSION FRUIT PROGENIES FOR VIGOR AND SCAB INCIDENCEABSTRACT-The yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg.), original from tropical America, is largely cultivated in Brazil, however the diseases such as the scab are responsible for great losses in yield and fruit quality. The aim of this study was to compare the selection strategies in yellow passion fruit progenies for vigor and resistance to scab (Cladosporium cladosporioides). Seventy -five half sib progenies were evaluated in November 2006, for vigor and scab incidence, according notes criteria varying from one to five. The experiment was designed in completely randomized blocks, with three replications and four plants for plot. The selection was simulated for resistance to scab and vigor, by three methods of selection indexes, involving the two characters. The selections based on indexes did not provide satisfactory results, while the gains expected by combined selection were superior to the obtained by the direct and indirect selection. However, the index of Pesek & Baker and Mulamba & Mock provided satisfactory total gain. The combined selection provided genetic gain superior to the selection indexes, characterized as promising in the selection of progenies with small scab incidence.
