This study compared the sealing ability of RoekoSeal, AH Plus and EndoRez in dog premolars after post-space preparation and exposure to the oral environment. Seventy-four root canals were cleaned, shaped and filled with gutta-percha and one of the sealers. Post spaces were prepared with about 4-mm root canal filling remaining in the apex. Teeth were sealed for 24 h for sealer setting. Teeth were exposed to the oral environment for 45 days. The dogs were killed and root canals were soaked in India ink and sealed for 96 h. The teeth were cleared, and leakage was measured under stereoscopy. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used for analysis. A significant difference was found between EndoRez and RoekoSeal groups (P < 0.05). EndoRez had lower leakage values than RoekoSeal after 45-day exposure to the oral environment. No statistic difference was found in the comparison of AH Plus with the other sealers under study.

ResumoIntrodução: A restauração provisória visa à manutenção da limpeza do canal radicular isolando-o do contato com os microrganismos presentes na cavidade bucal. Objetivo: O presente estudo teve como objetivo testar em laboratório a eficácia de substâncias obturadoras provisórias no selamento da coroa dental após a desobstrução do canal radicular e o preparo para retentor frente ao Staphylococcus aureus. Metodologia: Foram instrumentados, obturados e preparados para posterior colocação de retentores intrarradiculares, 28 dentes humanos, sendo constituídos os grupos controle positivo e negativo, formados de 4 unidades cada, e 2 grupos experimentais compostos de 10 unidades cada um, visando testar o poder obturador do Coltosol ® e IRM ® , respectivamente. Para a execução do protocolo experimental foi preparado um dispositivo específico no qual a coroa dental é imersa numa cultura pura de Staphylococcus aureus, enquanto que a porção radicular fica imersa no meio de cultura BHI a fim de detectar o início de possível contaminação bacteriana desses materiais. Resultado: Após 30 dias, constatou-se haver contaminação dos dois produtos pelo S. aureus em decorrência de infiltração e consequente comprometimento da integridade desses materiais.Conclusão: Comparados os resultados obtidos, concluiu-se não haver diferenças estatisticamente significantes no grau de contaminação dos dois produtos odontológicos, contudo, foi constatada diferença estatisticamente significativa (p=0,048) em relação à média do tempo em que se iniciou a contaminação dos mesmos. Abstract Introduction:The provisional restoration is aimed at maintaining the cleanliness of the root canal isolating it from contact with the microorganisms present in the oral cavity. Objective: The present study has had as main objective to test the effectiveness of the provisory filling substances, in laboratory, when sealing the dental crown right after the root canal clearing and the preparation for the retainer against the Staphylococcus aureus. Methodology: Twenty-eight human teeth, have been instrumented, filled and prepared for subsequent placement of the intracanal retainers, which constituted the positive and negative control groups, consisting of 4 units each, and 2 experimental groups composed by 10 units each, aiming to test the power of the Coltosol ® and MRI® filling respectively. For the implementation of experimental protocol a specific device had been prepared in which the dental crown is immersed in a pure culture of Staphylococcus aureus, while the root portion is immersed in the middle of the BHI culture in order to detect the onset of possible bacterial contamination of these materials. Results: After 30 days, it was found the existence of contamination of the two products by S. aureus due to the infiltration and subsequent impairment of the integrity of these materials.
