Padrões de utilização de antibacterianos em unidades de terapia intensiva

Abstract: Objective: To know and compare the patterns of antimicrobials use in intensive care units (ICUs) based on the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical/Defined Daily Dose (ATC/DDD) system. Methods: a prospective cohort study was conducted in three medical-surgical intensive care units, two of them in public hospitals and one in a private hospital. Simple random, independent samples of patients admitted from 10/2004 to 09/2005 to the selected intensive care units were used. The antibiotics use was assessed using the ATC/… Show more

“…(19) In a study performed at a general ICU in Recife (Pernambuco, Brazil), antibacterials were also the most widely used therapeutic class, followed by antihypertensives/antiarrhythmics, antacids, anxiolytics/ sedatives/hypnotics and analgesics/antipyretics. (17) The therapeutic classes most commonly used among antibacterials differed from the results of Santos et al (21) in a study conducted in three ICU in Brasilia (Federal District, Brazil) once, in Campo Grande (Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil), it was observed a higher frequency of prescriptions of antibacterials to resistant microorganisms, such as carbapenems, glycopeptides and polymyxins.…”

“…The utilization metrics found in this review were DDD/bed-days in 4 studies, DDD/patient-days in 8, and DDD/100 admissions in 1. Among these, two presented antibiotic consumption data arising from multiple locations (three for dos Santos et al, 2010 22 ) and more than one treatment (two for Gimenes et al 2016 29 ), totaling 16 columns as shown in Table 3 .…”

“…[12] A study in Brazil also showed similar antimicrobialusage patterns, with high cephalosporin prescription. [27] Such high cephalosporin usage may simply be explained by the fact that there is greater familiarity with the drug, and represents choice based on physician preference rather than being evidence based.…”
