Volatile constituents of five Baccharis Species from Northeastern Argentina

Show more

“…As mentioned earlier, among volatile terpenes of natural origin several are known to be centrally active (Heuberger et al, 2010). Some of these can be found in EOs from Bacharis species, such as α-pinene, limonene, linalool, myrcene, α-terpineol, and the sesquiterpenes eudesmene, α-and β-eudesmol, and caryophyllene oxide (Agostini et al, 2005;Lago et al, 2008;Ascari et al, 2009;Retta et al, 2009;Simonsen et al, 2009). Monoterpenes identified in the EO samples here evaluated that can be related to hypno-sedative properties include α-pinene (Sayyah et al, 2004) and limonene (Vale et al, 1999;2002).…”

“…The two oxygenated sesquiterpenes identified in BU-SC are spathulenol (13.39%) and caryophyllene oxide (13.26%), which are often the major components of EOs obtained from Baccharis spp. (Agostini et al, 2005;Lago et al, 2008;Retta et al, 2009). …”

“…Aroma compounds were analysed by means of a GC-FID-MS apparatus with a special configuration (Retta et al, 2009): A Perkin Elmer Clarus 500 equipped with one injector (split/ splitless) was connected using a flow splitter to two capillary columns (J&W, Scientific): a) polyethylene glycol PM ca. 20.000, and b) 5% phenyl-95% methyl silicone, both 60 m x 0.25 mm with 25μ of fixed phase.…”

“…13 This genus is well-studied and produces a variety of compounds of different structural types. Terpenoids, 12,[14][15] are mainly reported for its pharmacological and biological activity, being widely used in the perfumery industry and traditional medicine. [17][18][19] Baccharis spicata is a shrub native of South Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina.…”
