Antitumoral, antileishmanial and antimalarial activity of pentacyclic 1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives

Show more

“…Many studies have demonstrated the effect of lapachol against leishmaniosis (Lima et al, 2004), Chagas disease (Carvalho et al, 1988;Grazziotin et al, 1992;Santos et al, 2001;Silva et al, 2009), and schistosomiasis (Lima et al, 2002). Ravelo et al (2004) suggested that lapachol has potential for preventing cancer.…”

“…3 Their role as electron transfer agents in primary metabolic processes like photosynthesis and respiration is vital to human life. A large number of chemical derivatives with 1,4-benzoquinone as the basic subunit exhibit prominent pharmacological applications such as antibiotic, 4,5 antitumor, [6][7][8][9] antimalarial, 7,10 antineoplastic, 11 anticoagulant 12 and herbicidal activity. 13 Wide applications of quinones can also be found in the field of synthetic organic chemistry.…”

“…This is due to the fact that quinone derivatives are widely used as fungicides [1,2] and antibacterial agents [2][3][4]. Also a large number of chemicals derived from quinone as the basic subunit exhibit prominent pharmacological applications such as antimalarial [5] and herbicidal activity [6]. On the other hand, cyanine dyes have been extensively studied over the past century, mainly as photosensitizes for photography [7,8].…”
