Dans cet article, nous souhaitons comprendre quelles sont les potentialités de l’œuvre de Paulo Freire en Afrique de l’Ouest francophone. Même s’il existe quelques expériences prometteuses que nous présenterons, nous pensons que l’approche de Freire dans ce contexte est surtout pertinente en termes de cadre d’analyse pour ensuite, et ce n’est pas vraiment d’actualité, repenser l’éducation. Nous commencerons par la présentation de la situation générale de l’éducation de base en Afrique de l’Ouest francophone. Nous allons ensuite partir de concepts clés de Freire qui nous permettront d’éclairer la situation de l’éducation de base dans ce contexte. Nous allons nous pencher en particulier sur la question des opprimé-es, de la conscientisation, de la lecture du monde et de l’éducation bancaire. Nous terminerons en présentant des actions utilisant – d’une certaine manière – des approches freiriennes dans ce contexte.

This article intends to be a contribution to the present issue, entirely dedicated to Amílcar Cabral and the Idea of the Anticolonial Revolution. The main goal is to shift and decentralize the emphasis so far exclusively laid upon the historical weight of Cabral as an individual. In other words, we propose a more inclusive analysis and an approach that does not overlook the multiplicity of interactions and connexions, as well as how several interconnected elements hardly related to the figure of Cabral fostered the process of the liberation struggle of Guinea and Cabo Verde and brought it into fruition. In this introductory considerations we will address three main topics. First, we address Amílcar Cabral and PAIGC’s liberation project of struggle in relation with the domestic and transnational wave of decolonization from the same period. Secondly, we briefly outline the different topics so far discussed in the academic and non-academic works related to the history of liberation of Guinea and Cabo Verde, as well as how certain perspectives influenced the understanding of this history. Finally, we highlight the pertinence of the topic of this volume and identify the contribution of each of the different case studies presented in the articles.

The present article contributes to the debate on how historians and social scientists perceive and understand relations between ideology and science, which are often seen as realms belonging to rival kingdoms. Following an analysis and critical positioning vis-à-vis Cabralian studies, the text examines how scholars of Cabral have portrayed his agronomic activities. It then undertakes a genealogical analysis of the Cabralian concept of people and suggests that the emergence of this concept in Cabral's discourse derives from the intersection of the development of anti-colonial nationalist thought in the former Portuguese Empire and the development of agrarian studies in metropolitan Portugal.
