Capacidade funcional e fatores associados em idosos: estudo populacional

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the association of impaired functional capacity with health conditions and sociodemographic and behavioral factors among elderly residents in a community of northeastern Brazil. Methods: A cross-sectional population-based study, conducted with 316 elderly residents in Lafaiete Coutinho-BA. “…13 According to the results that were obtained with the study sample, 8.49% and 10.96% of elderly participants were functionally dependent with respect to ADL and IADL, respectively; these results were considered low when compared to other Brazilian municipalities. [15][16][17] However, the fact that various functional capacity evaluation tests exist, the cut-off values of which are not standardized, makes comparison of results with other studies difficult.…”

“…Further, the functional capacity may be evaluated by basic and instrumental activities performed, also called mobility abilities and self-care activities [5]. The assessment of functional capacity may be perceived as an indispensable tool for nurses in care-giving to the elderly.…”
