Methods: Cross sectional study, held in the Open University for the Elderly (UnATI), in the city of Vitória/ES, with a sample of 52 elderly, who answered the questionnaire of profile characterizing and The Herth Hope Scale. Results: Descriptive analyzes were performed. Prevailed females (86.5 %), elderly with 65-75 years (26.9 % of the sample), married and widowed (38.4%), 82.6 % with chronic diagnosed disease and the hope had an average total score of 35.88 (± 4.42). This score was high, identifying satisfactory hope indices. Conclusion: It was showed the importance of community groups in the Third Age and the hope was seen as a possible escape from suffering cycle and evaluated as a comfort to the elderly population, before the essentiality of a healthy aging, dignity and autonomy. casadas y viudas (38,4%), el 82,6% con enfermedad crónica diagnosticada y esperanza con una puntuación media total de 35,88 (± 4,42). Esta puntuación tenía un índice de esperanza de identificar alta, satisfactoria. Conclusión: Se evidenció la importancia de los grupos comunitarios en la tercera edad y la esperanza se vio como una posible salida del ciclo de sufrimiento y evaluado como una comodidad a las personas de edad, antes de la esencialidad de un envejecimiento saludable, la dignidad y la autonomía.

Background: Some ethical challenges have emerged along with advances within the field of pediatrics. Meanwhile, the residents of pediatrics face particular ethical challenges, since they have different roles in their professional career as educators, students, advocators, and clinicians. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to identify ethical challenges in the field of pediatrics from the viewpoints of Iranian pediatric residents Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted during 9 months. The studied population consisted of 90 residents of pediatrics studying at Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, capital of Iran. Sampling was conducted in the form of census counts of a 32-item instrument that evaluated ethical challenges in the field of pediatrics. Validity and reliability of this questionnaire were evaluated by experts in the field of medical ethics and pediatrics. Data were analyzed using the SPSS software using descriptiveanalytic statistic methods. Results: The most serious ethical challenges in the field of pediatrics were providing enough information to obtain informed consent (4.74 ± 0.22), dealing effectively with the conflicts of decision-making by the sick children and their families (4.68 ± 0.14), giving bad news to the sick children or their parents as appropriately as possible (4.64 ± 0.18), and taking necessary actions in dealing with cases of child maltreatment (4.62 ± 0.16), respectively. In addition, based on linear regression analysis, there was a significant correlation (P = 0.03, r = 0.059) between the residents' gender and their views towards ethical conflicts; female residents paid more attention to these challenges than male residents. Conclusions: Paying attention to ethical challenges in the field of pediatrics helps the authorities provide favorable conditions in clinical settings. Therefore, resulting in less ethical challenges in similar situations.

ResumoOs universitários se encontram no grupo de vulnerabilidade ao transtorno depressivo por sofrerem diferentes estressores durante o curso (ex: lidar com novas regras de ensino, prazos de entregas de trabalhos) e devido as grandes modificações no processo de entrar na vida adulta. Um aspecto que pode contribuir para a atenuação de sintomas depressivos é o nível de esperança dos alunos, pois relaciona-se ao planejamento a longo prazo e uma perspectiva positiva da vida. Assim, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo verificar a relação entre sintomas depressivos e esperança cognitiva em universitários. Os instrumentos usados foram a Escala Baptista de Depressão -Adultos (EBADEP-A) e a Escala de Esperança Cognitiva (The Hope Index). Os participantes foram 118 alunos de engenharia, sendo 80,5% homens (M = 20 anos; DP= 4,2 anos), ingressantes e concluintes, de uma universidade particular de uma cidade do interior de São Paulo. As respostas dos participantes foram avaliadas por meio do teste t de Student e d de Cohen, a comparação foi realizada entre sexo e alunos ingressantes e concluintes. Os resultados encontrados sugerem que alunos ingressantes possuem mais esperança que os concluintes, sem diferença entre sexo e quanto maior a esperança há menos presença de sintomas depressivos. AbstractThe university students are in the group of vulnerability to depressive disorder because they suffer different stressors during the course (e.g., dealing with new teaching rules, deadlines for work assignments) and due to the great changes in the process of entering adult life. One aspect that can contribute to the attenuation of depressive symptoms is the level of hope of the students, since this is related to the long-term planning and a positive perspective on life. Thus, this research aimed to verify the relationship between depressive symptoms and cognitive hope in university students. The instruments used were the Baptist Depression Scale -EBADEP-A and the Hope Index. The participants were 118 engineering students, 80.5% men (M = 20 years, SD = 4.2 years), students and graduates, from a private university in a city in the interior of São Paulo. The answers were analyzed via Student's t and Cohen's d, the comparison was between sex, freshman and veterans college student. The results suggest that incoming students have more hope than their graduates, no sex differences and the greater the hope, the less presence of depressive symptoms.
