Experimental model of severe acute pancreatitis in rabbits

Abstract: Purpose:To develop an experimental model of severe acute pancreatitis in rabbits through a pancreatic ductal injection of sodium taurocholate. Methods: Twenty-four albino rabbits of the New Zealand lineage were distributed into four groups of six animals (A, B, C and S). The rabbits of three experimental groups (A, B and C) were submitted to a laparatomy and received a pancreatic ductal injection of 1ml/kg sodium taurocholate 5%. Also, they were submitted to further laparatomies after 4h, 8h and 12h, respectiv… Show more

“…The rabbits were anesthetized by injection of pentobarbital (1 mL/kg). Briefly, 19 under aseptic conditions, a median abdominal wall incision was made to expose duodenal papilla, then found the opening of pancreatic duct, and a 0.5-mm scalp needle was used to prick a small hole. Animal models were made by 5% sodium taurocholate retrograde pancreatic duct puncture injection at constant speed, and the site of puncture was clamped with injury-free blood vessel forceps to avoid leakage of taurocholate, and they were removed 30 minutes later.…”
