“…Swertia species, which belong to the family Gentianaceae, are widely used in traditional medicine in many Asian countries such as China, India and Japan. Pharmacological research indicated that the plants of the Swertia genus have a variety of biological effects, including hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, anticholinesterase, antioxidant and antimicrobial (Brahmachari et al, 2004). Swertianolin, a xanthone glucoside isolated from the Swertia species, is one of the representative constituents of many Swertia species, such as S. chirayita, S. mussotii, S. japonica and S. punctata (Sakamoto et al, 1982;Li et al, 2008;Singh et al, 2012;Menkovic et al, 2002).…”

Despite its various biological activities, the pharmacokinetic properties of swertianolin have not been reported.…”

“…Methanolic extract of Argemone mexicana's leaves exhibit cytotoxic activities IC 50 (1.82 μg/mL) and IC 50 (1.35 μg/mL) against MDA-MB-435S and MCF-7 respectively by using MTT assay. Alkaloids isolated from its extract may be responsible for inhibitory activities (Brahmachari et al, 2013: Gali et al, 2011. Similarly, methanolic extract of Arisaema flavum showed maximum inhibition (83%) at 500 mg/mL against MCF-7, while aqueous extract showed minimum inhibition (1.2%).…”

“…A single dose (10 mg/kg) of sanguinarine tested in swiss albino mice have resulted in considerable loss of body weight, peritoneal edema and slightly enlarged livers with fibrinous material (Brahmachari et al, 2013). In another experiment, Bergenia ciliata showed acute systematic and intra cutaneous toxicities in experimental animals, which caused breathing problems, initiation of diarrhea with blood in stool and gastrointestinal syndrome (Ruby et al, 2012).…”

“…A drink prepared from the roasted and boiled leaves is given to children as a vermifuge. 18 It has been used traditionally to prepare herbal medicines and traditional teas, while a limited number of reports concerning the chemical constituents and biological activities of Microcos paniculata have appeared in the literature . But no valid reports are available about the effects of ethanolic extracts of Baccaurea ramiflora and Microcos paniculata against alcohol and paracetamol induced hepatic damage.…”
