Objective:Far infrared radiation has been widely used in a variety of healthcare institutions and clinical research. Previous studies have shown that far infrared radiation can promote blood circulation and enhance the functioning of the immune system. Many patients receiving peritoneal dialysis have been co-treated with far infrared radiation to reduce the occurrence of inflammation. This study seeks to evaluate the effects of far infrared radiation therapy on inflammation.Method:We used the lipopolysaccharide-induced peritonitis mouse model to study the effect of far infrared radiation treatment. Sixteen mice were randomly divided into two groups, a far infrared radiation treatment group (n = 8) and a non-far infrared radiation treatment group (n = 8). Collected blood samples were studied by analyzing the RNA level of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and the plasma protein levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS).Results:The administration of far infrared radiation inhibited the RNA levels of interleukin-6 and TNF-α after stimulation by lipopolysaccharide. The far infrared radiation treatment inhibited the endothelial nitric oxide synthase RNA levels at 1 h, but the RNA levels returned close to the baseline level after 2 h. In the control group, the endothelial nitric oxide synthase RNA levels were continuously decreasing. The interleukin-6 concentration in the plasma of the far infrared radiation group showed significant inhibition 30 min after lipopolysaccharide stimulation. The tumor necrosis factor alpha RNA concentration in plasma of the far infrared radiation group was significantly reduced 2 h after lipopolysaccharide stimulation.Conclusion:Far infrared radiation therapy can inhibit interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha RNA levels of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and recover endothelial nitric oxide synthase expression. These results demonstrate that far infrared radiation therapy might aid in reducing the level of inflammation experienced by patients going through peritoneal dialysis treatment.

Pyrostegia C. Presl (Bignoniaceae) is a genus of four species. All four species are native to South America [3]. Pyrostegia venusta (Ker Gawl.) Miers, a popular ornamental, is cultivated throughout the tropics, and is native to the Brazilian Cerrado, and popularly known as "cipó-desão-joão. " [3,4]. In the traditional Brazilian medicine, the aerial parts of Pyrostegia venusta are used as infusion or decoction and administered orally as a general tonic, as well as a treatment for diarrhoea, vitiligo, cough, and common diseases of the respiratory system related to infections, such as bronchitis, flu and cold [4,5]. The literature records the isolation of oleanolic acid from both the aerial parts and flowers of Pyrostegia venusta [6]. Oleanolic acid proved to be biologically very important. It has cytotoxic, antitumer, antioxidant, anti-inflamatory, anti-HIV, acetyl cholinesterase, alphaglucosidase, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, spasmolytic activity, anti-angiogenic, antiallergic, antiviral and immunomodulatory activities [7]. Also, the compounds acacetin-7-O-β-glucopyranoside and β-sitosterol isolated from flowers, roots and aerial parts of Pyrostegia venusta [6,8,9], showed anti-inflammatory activity [10,11]. These results highlight the possible promising activities of Pyrostegia venusta. Botanical Characterizations Pyrostegia species are lianas; the most reliable way to identify Pyrostegia venusta is by the disposition of the leaves, the type of inflorescence, the level of the staminode insertion, and the characteristics of the fruits, which according to Pool [3].

Background: NSAIDS are associated with side effects and research should continue for developing safer drugs. This study aims to evaluate newer thiazolidine-4-ones for their anti-inflammatory and ulcerogenic activities in wister rats.Methods: Five groups of wister rats, 6 in each were used. Anti-inflammatory and ulcerogenic activities of diclofenac (30mg/kg), nimesulide (50mg/kg), thia-1 (50mg/kg) and thia-2 (50mg/kg) are compared with control group (4% Gum Acacia). Carrageenin-induced paw edema, formaline induced acute peritonitis and cotton pellet-induced granulomatous tissue formation models were used for evaluating anti-inflammatory activity. After removing cotton pellets with granuloma on 8th day gastric ulcerogenicity was assessed by using macroscopic and microscopic scoring of ulcers.Results: Diclofenac, nimesulide and thia 2 reduced both paw edema and peritoneal exudate volume significantly (p <0.01). Wet weight of cotton pellets reduced significantly (p <0.01) by diclofenac, nimesulide and thia 2. Diclofenac (p <0.01) and thia 2 (p <0.05) reduced dry weight of cotton pellets significantly. nimesulide and thia-1 reduced it by 19.14% and 2.68% respectively and was considered statistically not significant (p>0.05). Nimesulide, thia-1 and thia-2 did not increase gastric ulcer score significantly (p >0.05). Diclofenac increased ulcer score significantly (p <0.01).Conclusions: Thia-2 demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory activity in acute and chronic models. In addition to inhibition of cyclooxygenase pathway, PPAR agonistic activity may be involved in its anti-inflammatory activity. No significant ulcerogenicity was observed on comparing with nimesulide and control. Further in-vitro and in-vivo studies are recommended to confirm the results of this study.
