Objective to investigate the associations of preoperative anxiety and depression symptoms with postoperative complications and with sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of patients submitted to the first coronary artery bypass graft.Method observational, analytical and longitudinal study. A consecutive non-probabilistic sample consisted of patients submitted to coronary artery bypass graft. To evaluate the symptoms, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was used. tracheal intubation for more than 48 hours, hemodynamic instability, sensorineural deficit, agitation, hyperglycemia, infection, nausea, vomiting, pain and death were classified as complications. The Mann-Whitney and Spearman Correlation tests were used, with a significance level of 0.05.Results a total of 75 patients participated. The group that presented hemodynamic instability in the postoperative period had a greater median for the anxiety symptoms (p = 0.012), as well as the women (p = 0.028). The median of the depression symptoms was higher in the group presenting nausea (p = 0.002), agitation (p <0.001), tracheal intubation for more than 48 hours (p = 0.018) and sensorineural deficit (p = 0.016).Conclusion there was association of the symptoms of preoperative anxiety with hemodynamic instability in the postoperative period and with the female gender, as well as association of depression symptoms with the following complications: nausea, agitation, time of intubation in the postoperative period and sensorineural deficit.

Objective: To identify factors that act as a barrier, so that humanized nursing care does not occur in its legitimate form in the Surgical Center and to contribute to the improvement of the quality of care provided to the client/patient. Method: Field research was carried out through semi-structured interviews with 32 nurses from two hospitals, one philanthropic/private and the other public, from June to July 2017. Results: Difficulties were identified in providing humanized care in the Surgical Center, such as: Negligence in the application of humanized practices, work overload, lack of knowledge of the attributions of the humanization program, deficit in the dimensioning of personnel and investment in continuing education. Final considerations: The study reinforces that despite the difficulties, there must be no barriers that make it impossible to provide humanized care, with the guidance and qualification of nurses being essential to ensure humane and quality care.

Aim: to identify post-operative complications in patients undergoingsurgical procedures in a hospital of medium complexity, the difficulties experienced in self-care during the post-operative period and the guidance provided in the discharge process. Method: a descriptive study, quantitative prospective undertaken in patientswho underwent surgical treatment in a hospital of Paraná. Results:in a total of 110 patients, 70 (64%) participated, and of these, 57 (87%) had some type of complication and 67 (95%) said they had received instructions for discharge. Al though 38 (54%) inquiries did not have doubts about self-care, 26 (37%) reported doubts about changing the dressing and 6 (9%) about the correct use of medication. As for the professional advisor, 45 (64%) were instructed by nurses, 40 (58%) by doctors and 4 (5%) by otherprofessionals. Conclusion: It showed the need for more efficient educational actions by health professionals in the peri-operative period.
