“…A taxa encontrada em nosso trabalho difere daquela de outras pesquisas, como de um estudo analítico feito com 3.069 adolescentes de 13-14 anos do Município de São Luís, MA, no qual a exposição in útero ao tabagismo estava presente em 16,85% dos casos e o fator analisado associou-se com aumento de 1,41 vezes na prevalência do diagnóstico médico de asma. 28 Tal achado, por sua vez, contrapõe-se aos resultados da pesquisa de LIMA et al 29 , na qual a exposição intrauterina foi associada somente ao risco de sibilância, embora 25% das mães tenham sido identificadas como fumantes durante a gravidez. Pode-se presumir, então, pela comparação com porcentagens obtidas em outras populações asmáticas, que o tabagismo na gestação não seria um fator de grande significado na associação com o grupo avaliado.…”
