Comportamento das doenças diarréicas agudas em serviços de saúde de Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil, entre 1996 e 2001

Abstract: Diarrhea is still an important cause of morbidity and mortality among children under five years old. It is not mandatory to report diarrheal diseases, and the statistics are not accurate. The objective of this study was to describe follow-up of acute diarrhea in Fortaleza, the capital of Ceará State, Brazil. From 1994 to 2001, cases of acute diarrhea were reported by 100 health care units using a standardized form, keyed-in and analyzed by month, age group, treatment plan, place of treatment, and place of resi… Show more

“…ADD are more common in children, but they also affect adults. This type of infectious disease is still responsible for the mortality of many people around the world and it is one of the major causes of morbidity, even in developed countries (Façanha & Pinheiro, 2005). The difficulty of controlling the presence of potential pathogens in water for human consumption reinforces the need to characterize the relative abundance and diversity of microbes in the search for understanding the factors that govern the dynamic of these communities (Navarro-Noya, Suárez-Arriaga, Rojas-Valdez, Montoya-Ciriaco, Gómez-Acata, Fernández-Luqueño, & Dendooven, 2013).…”

“…Studies on the length of stay of children in the emergence of an institution also found a predominance of children aged 1 to 4 years (8,9) . Children under 5 are in the toddler stage, and are not always aware of dangerous situations and are therefore targeted strategies and public health policies since infant mortality rates are important socio-demographic indicators, reflecting not only aspects of children's health, but the quality of life of a given population (10) .…”

“…According to the findings, it was observed that a significant amount of children was attended with complaints of diarrhea and vomiting associated with them or not, where the majority was characterized as non-acute condition (green). A study conducted in Fortaleza found an association between the intensity of rainfall and the number of diarrhea cases in children between 1 and 4 years and this increase was associated with ingestion of water from sources other than the usual, to the groundwater contamination by septic tanks or on the circulation of other etiologic agents (9) .…”

“…Sabe-se que as baixas condições de saneamento básico propiciam a disseminação de doenças [23]. Adicionalmente, estudos demonstram que os cidadãos de bairros de menor poder aquisitivo procuram frequentemente as unidades de pronto atendimento, o que pode contribuir para um maior número de registros [2].…”
