Eficacia del Fipronil en el control del ciclo peridomiciliario de Triatoma infestans en un área con resistencia a la Deltametrina

Abstract: This study tested the efficacy of liquid Fipronil (1.0%) against Triatoma infestans, administered by pouring on birds and mammals both in laboratory and field conditions. In the laboratory a chicken, dog, and goat were treated with Fipronil, after which deltamethrin-resistant stage III T. infestans nymphs were fed on them. The control group used same-stage nymphs reared in laboratory. During the field phase, Fipronil was used to treat 4 dogs, 1 cat, and 2 broody hens. Intradomiciliary infestation was treated u… Show more

“…Some results are contradictory even with the same insecticide (e.g. fipronil) (Gentile et al, 2004;Gürtler et al, 2009), however, in general the studies showed some degree of effectiveness, although with remarkable variation in residual effect, showing its potential as complementary tool to the traditional spray mainly in highly infested peridomestic environments. The insecticidal paints are other promising alternative tools for the control of triatominae including the resistant foci.…”

“…infestans exposed to each host was estimated to be 100% and 89% effective at 7 and 30 days post-treatment, respectively. 14 In the same study, a topical application of fipronil pour-on on four dogs, one cat and two chickens residing in an infested rural house was considered to have reduced peridomestic bug densities by 65% (relative to pre-treatment bug densities) at 30 days post-treatment at the end of fall (i.e. June 2003).…”

“…The intense movement of ants treated with fipronil was typical of the effects presented in cases of contamination by fipronil: a system blocker of the passage of chloride ions through the chloride channels that are regulated by gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which, in doses high enough, causes death by hyperexcitement (GeNtile et al 2004). …”
