“…Several other studies have shown frequencies similar to the ones in the present study but with different cutoffs. Gondim et al (1999), Costa et al (2001), Ogawa et al (2005) and Santos et al (2005) detected frequencies of 14,09%, 16,83%, 12,00%, and 14,30% with a cutoff of 1:200, respectively, in dairy cattle in Bahia, cows for slaughter from the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, dairy cattle from northern Paraná, and dairy cows with aborted calves in the north of Paraná. Aguiar et al (2005) obtained the following frequencies at a 1:25 cutoff: 11,20% for dairy cattle, 9,50% for beef cattle, and 9,70% for dual purpose cattle reared in the city of Monte Negro, Rondônia.…”

“…This study demonstrated that 26.7% (8/30) of the serum evaluated fetuses were positives to N. caninum antibodies; this results is more elevated, despite the use of different techniques, than that described in a similar study (SANTOS et al, 2005a), that used the IFA and obtained 11.7% (4/34) of seropositivity.…”

“…The results found that brucellosis were according to the study conducted with dairy cattle in Parana by Santos et al (2005). This suggests that the mandatory measures required by the National Program for Control and Eradication of Brucellosis and Tuberculosis (PNCEBT) implemented in 2006, is effective.…”

“…Despite the seropositive samples in a large number of the animals of the herd, a study in Canada carried out by Waldner (2005) stated that the use of large-scale diagnostic tests is questionable because of the high cost. Santos et al (2005) studied the prevalence of brucellosis, leptospirosis and neosporosis in animals with a history of miscarriage in Paraná, and found that 60% (21/35) were reactive to one of the diseases. From the 21 positive animals, 14.3% were for neosporosis, 42% for leptospirosis and no animals were reactive to brucellosis, resembling the results obtained herein.…”
