-The objective of this study was to evaluate the risk associated with finishing crossbred Charolais × Nellore steers in feedlot at different slaughter weights (425, 467 or 510 kg), considering or disregarding the correlation amongst random input variables. Data were collected from 2004 to 2010 and used in the simulation of the financial indicator Net Present Value (NPV). Animals slaughtered with 425, 467 or 510 kg were fed diets containing a roughage:concentrate ratio of 60:40 for 30, 65 and 94 days, respectively. In the simulation of NPV, a Latin Hypercube type of sampling was used, running 2000 interactions. An analysis of stochastic dominance of first and second orders was carried out as well as the KolmogorovSmirnov asymptotic test (to check for differences between pairs of curves of cumulative distributions), followed by sensitivity analysis using stepwise multivariate regression. Simulations of NPV considering the correlation amongst the input variables produced more consistent estimates of this financial indicator than simulations that disregarded it. The risk analysis showed that 467 kg slaughter weight presented the lowest risk for finishing cattle in feedlots when compared with 425 and 510 kg. The most important variables influencing the NVP are the prices of feeder and finished steers, initial and final weights, concentrate and roughage costs, and minimum rate of attractiveness; therefore, farmers should pay particular attention to these variables when making the decision of whether or not to use feedlot to finish beef cattle.

Devido às exigências de mercado, produtores de boi gordo estão profissionalizando cada vez mais a atividade, visando uma maior rentabilidade, melhoria na gestão e padronização do produto final. Neste trabalho objetivou-se analisar a viabilidade econômica de um confinamento bovino, com capacidade de 1.000 cabeças de boi e três ciclos de confinamento anuais, de 90 dias cada um, bem como analisar cenários com a variação dos principais indicadores que influenciam o resultado econômico da atividade (preço da ração; preço da arroba do boi; escala de produção; taxa mínima de atratividade). Os dados utilizados foram coletados em uma propriedade localizada em Paracatu, Minas Gerais, durante o ano de 2017. A atividade de confinamento de bovinos de corte utilizando a forma de aquisição do boi magro e venda do boi gordo mostrou-se economicamente viável, porém com um certo risco devido às sazonalidades do valor de mercado de alguns parâmetros, tais como o valor da arroba do boi e também valor dos principais insumos que compõem a ração (milho e soja). Em contrapartida, aumentando a escala de produção dos bovinos confinados em 20%, o Valor Presente Líquido apresentou um impacto muito positivo, o que foi um fator importante e que pode ser aplicado nos momentos desfavoráveis de mercado.

Economic Deterministic Analysis of Two Years Old Steers Production Systems

The objective of this study was to realize the economic deterministic analysis of steers production system in full cycle, finished in feedlot or cultivated pasture at twenty-four months old, utilizing or not the quality bonus from slaughterhouses. The study was realized using data from meta-analytic survey of studies in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, in Microsoft Excel ® spreadsheets. The systems were simulated considering the male and female calves weaned early, at the tree months of age, and finished at the 24 months of age in feedlot or cultivated pasture. After the slaughter, it was realized the economic deterministic analysis. According to financial return indicators net present value (NPV), benefit:cost index (IB:C) and additional return on investment (ROI) only the system in pasture show return at the end of planning horizon, and the internal return rate (IRR), modified internal return rate (MIRR) and discounted payback (PBd), show that this system possesses a higher risk of investment. The feedlot system show negative results as a investment project. The bigger cost center was depreciation, feeding supply and taxes, and the quality bonus shows up an interesting alternative of return, but was not sufficient to render the feedlot system a viable project. ResumoO objetivo deste estudo foi realizar a análise econômica determinística do sistema de produção de novilhos em ciclo completo, terminados em confinamento ou pastagem cultivada aos 24 meses de idade, utilizando ou não a bonificação por qualidade das empresas frigoríficas. O experimento foi realizado utilizando dados via levantamento metanalítico de dados na região central do Rio Grande do Sul em planilhas do Microsoft Excel ® . Os sistemas foram simulados considerando os bezerros e bezerras desmamados precocemente, aos três meses de idade, e terminados aos 24 meses de idade em confinamento ou pastagens cultivadas. Após o abate, foi realizada a análise econômica determinística.
