O delineamento exper… Show more

“…The essential oil yield of 0.162 and 0.187% observed before and after the formation of frost (Table 1), respectively, is in agreement with results found by Paulus et al (2013) who found lower essential oil content of A. triphylla during the winter, ranging from 0.07 to 0.27%. Taiz and Zeiger (2013) argue that a reduction in temperature and other weather elements can reduce the primary and secondary metabolism of the plant, causing cellular stress, and a lower rate of essential oil synthesis.…”

“…According to Paulus et al (2013), A. triphylla cultivated in the slightly more northern state of Paraná began losing leaves between the months of May and June, at a gradual rate of 40%; the authors observed a total loss of leaves in July due to the occurrence of frost which made it impossible to harvest leaves for analysis.…”

“…Some studies have been carried out aiming to evaluate biomass production and the oil content of cidró (Brant et al, 2008(Brant et al, , 2010Paulus et al, 2013), since this species has aroused economic interest, considering exploitation of compounds with therapeutic properties. Research related to ecophysiology of this species are scarce.…”

“…Secondary metabolism is known for showing response patterns related to environmental stimuli, and it is thought that increased concentrations of active ingredients might establish a connection between the environmental temperature and metabolic activity of the plant (BLANK et al, 2005). Temperature and luminosity varies throughout the day, which can alter the quantity and chemical composition of essential oil (PAULUS et al, 2013). Therefore, identifying the best time to carry out the collection and the time when production of the essential oil by medicinal plants is higher, is important with regard to production of these special metabolites (PAULUS et al, 2013, MIRANDA et al, 2013.…”
