Automatized irrigation systems under nursery conditions have become an essential tool to satisfy rationally the water needs for plants without forgetting the sustainability aspects. The present study aimed to evaluate two sprinkler irrigation systems under nursery conditions: one with fixed laterals (fixed system) and another with self-propelled laterals (mobile system) and study the effect of their use on the behavior of tree lettuce seedlings production. The experiment was conducted on a greenhouse with a polystyrene (PVC) plastic film coverture and laterals closed with 60% plastic screen. The statistical design used was a 2x3 completely randomized factorial with four replicates, and the results analyzed using the Tukey test. To compare the lettuce seedlings behavior under both irrigation systems it was evaluated the leaves number, seedling's height, root length and fresh and dry mass of the aerial and root part of the plant. The Christiansen uniformity coefficient (CUC) and the water distribution coefficient (WDC) for the fixed irrigation system were considered adequate and for the self-propelled laterals system (mobile system) they were considered excellent. The volume of water used with the fixed system was 109.12% higher than with the selfpropelled system. The lettuce seedlings irrigated with the self-propelled system had a growth, production and a seedling quality statistically superior than when irrigated with the fixed system. Independent of the irrigation system used, the Elizabeth lettuce cultivar had a greater seedling behavior. According with the results obtained, it is recommended the use of the self-propelled irrigation system (mobile system) on the production of lettuce seedlings.

ResumoEste trabalho foi conduzido na Fazenda Experimental São Manuel pertencente à UNESP/FCA, Botucatu/SP, com o objetivo de avaliar a germinação de sementes de alface (cultivar Verônica) obtidas de plantas cultivadas com diferentes doses de fósforo, logo após a colheita, em três temperaturas e após dois períodos de conservação em câmara seca. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados, com cinco tratamentos (0; 200; 400; 600 e 800 kg ha -1 de P 2 O 5 ) e cinco repetições. Após a colheita, foram avaliadas a germinação das sementes na temperatura ideal (20ºC) e sob altas temperaturas (30 e 33ºC). Após 15 e 25 meses de conservação em câmara seca foi avaliada a germinação a 20ºC. As doses de P 2 O 5 avaliadas não afetaram a germinação das sementes logo após a colheita nas três temperaturas avaliadas, porém, quanto maior a temperatura, menor foi o vigor das sementes. AbstractThis study was carried out at São Manuel Experimental Farm, UNESP/FCA, in Botucatu, São Paulo state, Brazil, with the objective to evaluate the lettuce seeds (cultivar Verônica) germination from plants cultivated with different phosphorus levels at harvest, in three temperatures and after two conservation period in dry chamber. At seed production stage, the experiment was conducted in randomized complete blocks, with five treatments (0; 200; 400; 600 and 800 kg ha -1 of P 2 O 5 ) and five replications. After harvesting, seed germination at 20 o C and under high temperatures (30 and 33ºC) was evaluated. After 15 and 25 months of conservation in dry chamber room it was evaluated germination at 20ºC. The P 2 O 5 levels evaluated did not affect seed germination soon after harvesting at the three temperatures evaluated, but, the higher the temperature, the lower the seed vigor. After 25 months of conservation, the lesser the P 2 O 5 rates, the lesser seed germination and germination speed index.

The purpose of treating seeds chemically is to eradicate their pathogens and/or protect them against soil pathogens, mainly by germination time. However, there is little research on vegetables investigating the effect of this treatment on seed quality. Therefore, this study evaluates the effects of Carboxin + Thiram doses on germination and vigor of three lots of broccoli seeds, as well as on the incidence of fungi in treated seed. The 15 treatments were evaluated in a factorial system (3x5), with the first factor consisting of three lots of 'Avenger' broccoli seeds (lots 82744, 82745 and 82749), and the second factor consisting of five doses (0, 0.04, 0.06, 0.10 and 0.12% of a.i.) of Carboxin + Thiram fungicide (commercial name Vitavax-Thiran). The germination and seed vigor were evaluated, in addition to the presence of pathogens in seeds after treatment (blotter test). All lots showed high levels of germination and vigor. The lot 82749, however, showed higher value in plug test in substrate emergence (99%) than lot 82745 (95%). Regarding the treatment with Carboxin + Thiram, no changes in germination average (98%) and vigor were noticed (average for the first germination count, length, and dry weight of seedling, plug test at 10 days after sowing of 97%, 4.9 cm, 4.0 mg and 96%, respectively), showing that this fungicide, in the evaluated doses, does not affect the quality of broccoli seeds. As to seeds health, the pathogens Alternaria spp. and Fusarium spp. were detected, in addition to saprophytic species such as Penicillium, Aspergillus, Trichoderma, and Rhizopus. The higher incidence of Fusarium spp. was noticed in lot 82744, and the lowest in lot 82749. As to Penicillium spp., lot 82479 was the most contaminated. Regarding other fungi, the general incidence was very low and there was no difference between lots and doses used.
