Skrjabinodon heliocostai sp.n. (Nematoda, Pharyngodonidae) parasitizing Mabuya frenata (Cope) (Lacertilia, Scincidae) in Brazil and the reallocation of Skrjabinodon capacyupanquii (Freitas, Vicente & Ibanez) in the genus Thelandros Wedl

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The present report is related to an oxyurid nematode recovered from a reptilian host, Mabllya jrenata (Cope, 1862) and the proposal of Slajabinodoll helicostai sp.n., based mainly on findings referring to the lateral alae, position of excretory pore and vulvar apet1ures, cuticular spines of the tail and aspect of the eggs. The examination of types of Skljabillodoll capacyupanquii (Freitas, Vicente & Ibanez, 1968) from a Peruvian lizard, indicated the reallocation of this species in the genus The/all… Show more

“…(117), this oxyurid was incorrect described in "Libro de Resumenes del IV Congreso Nacional de Biologia", a meeting abstract. Due to an inaccordance with articles 8.1 and 9.9 of the International Code for Zoological Nomenclature, it was therefore considered a species inquirenda (107,118 (165). Moreover, the species was cited in Guillén-Hernández et al (166).…”

“…Despite the numerous studies on lizard parasites in Brazil (Rocha, 1995;Ribas et al, 1998;Vrcibradic et al, 1999;Vicente et al, 2000;Vrcibradic et al, 2001;Vicente et al, 2002;Vrcibradic et al, 2002a, b;Anjos et al, 2005;Bursey et al, 2010), most focus on species of lizards restricted to biomes and ecosystems from the Southeast region. In relation to lung parasites, only two host species were studied in skinks, Mabuya agilis (Raddi, 1823), which was recorded as a host of an unidentified species of the pentastomid Raillietiella sp.…”

“…is most similar to those species lacking a spicule (see Table I), namely, S. apapillosus (Koo, 1938), S. dossae (Caballero, 1968), S. heliocostai Vicente, Vrcibradic, Muniz-Pereira andPinto, 2000, S. leristae Mawson, 1971, S. mabuiensis (Malan, 1939), S. megalocerca (Skrjabin, 1916), S. ovocaudatus Caballero, 1968, S. pigmentatus Markov and Bogdanov, 1961, and S. smythi Angel and Mawson, 1968. Of these, only males of S. dixoni, S. leristae, and S. smythi have cuticular spines on the tail filament.…”

“…Four species of Skrjabinodon Inglis, 1968 are currently known from neotropical lizards (Table I): S. cricosaurae Barus and Coy Otero, 1974 from the Cuban night lizard (Cricosaura typical), collected in Cuba; S. heliocostai Vicente, Vrcibradic, Muniz-Pereira and Pinto, 2000 from Cope's mabuya (Mabuya frenata), collected in Brazil; S. spinulosus Vicente, Vrcibradic, Rocha and Pinto, 2002 from the Paraguay mabuya (Mabuya dorsivittata), also collected in Brazil; and S. scelopori (Caballero, 1938) from the crevice swift (Sceloporus torquatus), collected in Mexico (Caballero, 1938;Barus and Coy Otero, 1974;Vicente et al, 2000Vicente et al, , 2002. The purpose of this paper is to describe a new species of Skrjabinodon.…”
