“…Other studies also found similar patterns (Vendel et al, 2002;Robertson & Duke, 1990). The spring spawning of B. ronchus in the mangrove channels of the Baía de Guaratuba has been reported by Chaves (1995). A. parva leaves the interior of the estuaries to spawn during the spring (Esper, 1982), but several mature individuals were captured in the tidal creeks.…”

“…An explanation for this pattern is that the tide channel was dominated by the resident estuarine species A. parva, B. ronchus, G. genidens, S. greeleyi, and S. testudineus and the marine species H. clupeola, with similar life histories. The resident ones spawned at the site or close to the area in the spring and summer, and the marine species in the adjacent coastal zone (Chaves, 1989(Chaves, , 1995Rocha et al, 2002;Schultz et al, 2002), with the recruitment occurring mainly between the summer and beginning of winter. Reproduction in the spring and summer, with subsequent recruitment in the summer and autumn has been observed in most of the local species (Pinheiro, 1999;Chaves & Otto, 1999;.…”

“…Johnson (1978) cita o uso de áreas estuarinas com fundos lodosos por juvenis e adultos desse gênero, sendo que a desova da espécie pode ocorrer nestes ecossistemas (Johnson, 1978;Chaves, 1995). I. parvipinnis, M. atricauda, L. breviceps e P. cromis tiveram baixa abundância durante todo o período de estudo, utilizando a baía da Babitonga de forma ocasional.…”
