Neste estudo foram capturados 209 exemplares de Astyanax fasciatus (Cuvier, 1819), sendo 100 fêmeas e 109 machos, no Rio Ceará Mirim, Rio Grande do Norte (5°37'S e 35°39'W), durante o período de fevereiro 1996 a abril de 1997. A proporção entre os sexos, não difere significativamente de 1:1, com uma leve predominância de machos. A distribuição de freqüência percentual de machos e fêmeas por classes de comprimento total, evidencia que a amplitude de variação de comprimento está compreendida entre 3 a 9 cm, com predominância nas classes 4-5 e 7-8 cm. O valor estimado do coeficiente angular (q = 2,59), sugere que a espécie apresenta um crescimento do tipo alométrico negativo. O IGS tende a aumentar a partir do trimestre novembro-dezembro-janeiro, alcançando seus maiores valores no trimestre seguinte, coincidindo com a elevação das médias dos valores de precipitação pluviométrica, enquanto que, o fator de condição tende a apresentar os valores médios inferiores neste período.

This work aimed to analyse the water quality and identify the fungal diversity present in the skin and gills of tambatinga fish from the environmental protection area of the western lowlands of Maranhão, Brazil. The physicochemical parameters of water were analysed and microbiological tests were carried out to identify the most probable number of total coliforms and Escherichia coli. Forty tambatinga specimens were collected. In addition, skin and gill fragments were removed for fungi isolation in culture medium (BDA). Physicochemical and microbiological parameters of water, fish biometry and fungal diversity of fish in the dry and rainy periods were analysed.Results showed significant differences in the total length (TC) and weight (P) of fish in the dry and rainy periods. Microbiological data showed that the water of the four fish farms analysed in both periods are within the limits established by the National Environment Council (CONAMA) of Brazil and within limits established in complementary literature. Regarding the physicochemical parameters of water, only conductivity (F (1, 14) = 8.611; p = 0.011) and temperature had considerable differences (F (1, 14) = 11.037; p = 0.005). There was prevalence of yeasts (33%) and fungi of the genus Fusarium sp. (26%), Penicillium sp. (21%) and Aspegillus sp. (20%). The analysis of fungal diversity showed associations for sex, Aspegillus sp. (X2 = 19,600; DF = 1; p = 0,001) and the dry season, Penicillium sp. (X2 = 8,120; DF = 1; p = 0,004) and Fusarium sp. (X2 = 21.583; GL = 1; p = 0.001). It is concluded, therefore, that the harvests are within the established by the legislation of the National Environment Council-CONAMA in Brazil and complementary literature. However, it is necessary to evaluate the presence of possible mycotoxins in cultivated fish, since the most prevalent fungal species are considered to be mycotoxigenic fungi and are widely disseminated in the environment.

This is paper we analyze the diet and body condition factor (Mi) of three endemic species inside and outside an environmental protection area, to compare the effectiveness of the protection area in providing a greater spectrum of food items and greater environmental well-being to ichthyofauna. The study area comprised streams of the Ribeira do Iguape River basin, Campos Gerais National Park (CGNP), Paraná state and its surroundings. Eleven streams were sampled inside and outside, using electric fishing. A Permutational Multivariate Analysis of Variance to investigate the composition of food items and a Permutational Analysis of Multivariate Dispersions was used to investigate the variability between food items. The Scaled Mass Index (Mi) of the body condition was used to determine the relative condition factor of each individual of each species. Regarding the diet, there were no significant differences between inside and outside in the composition and variability of food items, this similarity may be associated with existing environmental degradation inside. However, the Mi was significant, and only one species presented greater well-being inside, because inside streams receive greater allochthonous intake of riparian vegetation, but, when it comes to the two species that perform the link of the aquatic food web with the terrestrial, the opposite occurred. These results indicate that the studied fragment, under anthropic pressures, is currently unable to conserve its biodiversity. The inside has no Management Plan, the manager must elaborate and implement it as a first step so that the situation can be reverted and the conservation effectiveness ensured in this highly threatened area, characterized by being one of the most important remnants of the Atlantic Forest, having relevant ecosystem services from a rare humid forest of Araucaria.
