Citogenética de Quirópteros: métodos e aplicações

Abstract: Information about standard karyotypes, G-band, C-band and Ag-NOR staining patterns and other chromosomal data are reviewed for species of the New World bats. Techniques for collecting and processing the specimens, for the preparation of G- and C-band chromosomes and for staining of nucleolus organizer regions are described. Systematic implication are also discussed

“…Except for the G-banded karyotype of Tadarida brasiliensis (Baker et al, 1982) and Eumops glaucinus (Morielte et al. 1988), chromosomal data for American molossid species are limited to standard stained karyotypes for 16 species, repre senting seven genera (Varella-Garcia and Taddei, 1989).We have examined G-and C-banded chromosomes of seven species, representing four genera of the family Molossidae, in order to detect chromosomal G-band homology and to contrib ute to an understanding of the phylogenetic relationships with in the taxa. …”

“…Mitotic chromosomes were obtained from bone marrow cells using the in vivo method ( Lee and Elder 1980 , Varella-Garcia and Taddei 1989 ). C-banding patterns and nucleolus organizing region (NOR) locations were determined according to Sumner (1972) , and Howell and Black (1980) , respectively.…”

“…Cultures were grown in Ham F-10 medium supplemented with 20% fetal calf serum, L-glutamine, penicilin, and streptomycin. CBG-banding and Ag-NOR staining were performed according to SUMNER (1972) and HOWELL & BLACK (1980) with the modifications referred to by VARELLA-GARCIA & TADDEI (1989).…”
