Introduction: Climacterium is a period of a woman's life, between 35 and 65 years old, marked by hormonal and biopsychosocial changes that can lead to the onset of depressive symptoms. The aim was to identify the prevalence of and factors associated with depressive symptoms in climacteric women.Method: An exploratory study, of cross-sectional type research, was carried out in Cajazeiras, Paraíba, Brazil, from January 2013 to March 2014. The sample included 411 women aged 40 to 60. Data collection was done by interviews using a structured script. Mean and standard deviation of age variables and per capita income were identified. For correlation between the variables, we used odds ratios (CI 95%), the X² and Fisher's Exact Test, with a significance level of 5%. Results Conclusion:Understanding and addressing the factors related to depressive complaints during climacterium supports the importance of conducting disease prevention programmes, thus delaying the onset of morbidity and improving quality of life.

Objectives: to analyze associations among violence against pregnant women, depressive symptoms during pregnancy and maternal depression symptoms. Methods: a sample of 1,139 mothers was conducted on a prenatal cohort study in the municipality of São Luís in Brazil. Psychological and physical violence against pregnant women were measured by the World Health Organization Violence Against Woman. Depressive symptoms during pregnancy were measured by the Escala de Depressão do Centro de Estudos Epidemiológicos (CES-D) (Depression Scale for Epidemiological Studies Center) and maternal depression symptoms were measured by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). The conceptual model of the structural equation modeling contained socioeconomic situation, social support, psychological and physical violence and depression during pregnancy as determinants of the maternal depression symptoms. Results: maternal depression symptoms were more frequently reported by pregnant women who suffered psychological violence (Standardized Coefficient, SC=0.256; p-value, p<0.001), physical violence (SC=0.221 p<0.001) and those who presented depressive symptoms during pregnancy SC=0.322, p<0.001). Depressive symptoms during pregnancy mediated the effects on physical and psychological violence on maternal depression. Conclusions: pregnant women who were submitted to psychological and physical violence and presented depressive symptoms during pregnancy frequently reported more of having maternal depression symptoms.

Este estudo buscou verificar se existe associação entre o histórico de transtornos disfóricos no período reprodutivo e a presença de sintomas sugestivos de depressão na pós-menopausa. Trata-se de uma pesquisa do tipo transversal analítica. A população foram mulheres pós-menopausa, com idade entre 50 e 65 anos, com no mínimo 12 meses de amenorreia, residentes em um município do interior do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Atenderam aos critérios do estudo 112 mulheres. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de entrevista estruturada contendo informações sociodemográficas, anamnese para identificação da presença de transtornos disfóricos, sintomas relacionados a menopausa, tratamento de reposição hormonal e aplicada a escala de depressão de Hamilton para avaliar a presença de sintomas sugestivos de depressão. Os transtornos disfóricos mais relatados pelas mulheres foram o cansaço, as dores articulares ou musculares, cefaleia, nervosismo e irritabilidade. A maioria apresentava algum grau de sintoma depressivo e verificou-se associação entre esses sintomas e a presença de transtornos disfóricos. Embora não se tenha observado relação entre terapia de reposição hormonal e sintomas depressivos, expressivo número de mulheres apresentou este sintoma com o uso ou não de terapia de reposição hormonal. O estudo mostrou associação de transtornos disfóricos pré-menstruais e sintomas sugestivos de depressão em mulheres pós-menopausa.
