We aimed to assess rice yield components as function of water stress imposed at distinct crop growth stages under greenhouse, in randomized block design under factorial scheme 3 × 4 + 1, with four replications. The factor "A" was the growth stage in which water stress was imposed, being (a) vegetative, (b) reproductive 1, and (c) reproductive 2; factor "B" was four levels of water stress (0-200 kPa). There was also an additional treatment consisting of a flooded check. Water was replenished to saturation every time the threshold stress was reached. At the end of the cycle, all panicles were counted and collected, per plant, for further analysis. In the lab, grains per panicle were counted, being classified either as whole kernel or aborted grains, whose results were used for obtaining sterility percentage. Whole kernel grains were weighted for obtaining the 1000 grains weight for each treatment, and the consequent plant grain yields. Number of panicles was not affected when stress was imposed after panicle initiation, but when imposed at tillering it was reduced; at grain filling, water stress promoted grains sterility higher than 90%; grain weight was only reduced when carbohydrates were directed to root formation in detriment of grain filling; lower rice grain yield per plant was observed even when treatments were maintained above 10kPa all along the cycle, compared to the flooded treatment.

O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a influência da aplicação de boro em diferentes épocas no rendimento e na qualidade de sementes de trigo. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial A X B, sendo o fator A: cultivares FUNDACEP Horizonte e BRS Campeiro, e fator B: época de aplicação, (Sem aplicação de boro, aplicação na semeadura, no perfilhamento, na floração e 15 dias após floração). A dose de boro aplicada, via solo, em todas as épocas foi de 10 kg ha-1 na forma de tetraborato de sódio (boráx). Após a colheita, avaliaram-se número de espigas, número de sementes por planta, rendimento de sementes por planta, peso hectolítrico e peso de mil sementes. A qualidade fisiológica das sementes produzidas foi avaliada por testes de vigor e de germinação. A adubação de trigo com 10 kg ha-1 de boro na forma de bórax nas diferentes épocas de aplicação, não prejudica rendimento, germinação e vigor das sementes das cultivares de trigo FUNDACEP Horizonte e BRS Campeiro. O peso volumétrico das sementes só teve redução na aplicação no perfilhamento para a cultivar FUNDACEP Horizonte e na floração para a cultivar BRS Campeiro.Boron supplementation at different times: Effect on yield and quality of wheat seedsAbstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of boron application at different times on the yield and seeds quality of wheat. The experimental design was a completely randomized factorial AXB, with factor A: FUNDACEP Horizonte and BRS Campeiro cultivars, and factor B: application time, (No application of boron, application at sowing, tillering, flowering and 15 days after flowering). The boron dose into the soil at all times was 10 kg ha-1 in the form of sodium tetraborate (borax). After harvest, were evaluated number of ears, number of seeds per plant, seed yield per plant, hectoliter weight and thousand seed weight. The physiological quality of seeds produced was assessed through the vigor tests and germination test. Fertilizing wheat with 10 kg ha-1 of boron as borax at different times of application, without prejudice yield, germination and vigor of wheat FUNDACEP Horizonte and BRS Campeiro cultivars. The hectolitre weight of the seeds was reduced only in the application at tillering to FUNDACEP Horizonte cultivar and flowering for BRS Campeiro cultivar.

High physiological quality soybean seeds are essential for a successful production, because they promote optimal plant density in the field. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of boron doses applied at different phenological stages of two soybean varieties on the physiological quality of the seeds. Two field experiments were carried out, one with each variety of soybean, conventional and transgenic. Five doses for boron were applied to the soil as boric acid (17%): 0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 kg ha-1, at three phenological stages (V6, V9 e R1). In R8 stage the seeds are harvested and then tested for physiological quality, through the tests of Germination, germination first count, germination speed index, accelerated aging and electrical conductivity. For the conventional variety, the boron doses promoted a quadratic effect on variables when the boron was applied near the reproductive stages. For the transgenic variety, the first-degree polynomial model presented the best fit, meaning that the higher the boron dose the better the physiological quality. The optimal boron application stage for producing high vigor seeds was R1 for both varieties. Four (4.0) kg ha-1 of boric acid is recommended for both varieties to produce high quality seeds.
