Inheritance of anthracnose resistance in common bean genotypes P.I. 207262 and AB 136

Abstract: Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) lines P.I. 207262 and AB 136, both resistant to delta and kappa races of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, were crossed with Michelite, Dark Red Kidney, and Perry Marrow, susceptible to both races, and with Cornell 49-242, resistant to delta and susceptible to kappa. F1 and F2 reactions demonstrated that P.I. 207262 carries duplicate dominant genes for resistance to the delta race; AB 136 carries a dominant gene. These resistance genes are independent of the Are gene from Cornell 49-242.… Show more

“…These results pointed to the presence of three independent dominant genes, one gene in ‘Jalo Vermelho’ and the other two genes, Co‐4 3 and Co‐9 , in ‘PI 207262’. Similar results demonstrating the presence of two genes in ‘PI 207262’ were obtained by Gonçalves‐Vidigal et al. (1997) in an F 2 population from the cross ‘PI 207262’ × ‘Cornell 49‐242’ when inoculated with delta race (23).…”

“…Alzate-Marin et al (1997) reported that two independent genes were conferring anthracnose resistance in AB136 and exhibited dominant and recessive gene action. The line AB136 showed dominant gene action for resistance to Kappa race, in crosses with Michelite, D. Red Kidney, Cornel 19-212 and Perry Marrow, but also showed a dominant gene and a dominant complementary factor, in crosses with the same lines, to Delta race (Goncalves-Vidigal et al 1997). Two duplicate dominant genes were conferring anthracnose resistance in PI207262 against Delta race; but the same line, in crosses with Michelite, D.Red Kidney and Cornel-49-212, displayed action of a dominant gene and a dominant complementary factor against the Kappa race (Goncalves-Vidigal et al 1997).…”
