-(Germination of Pyrostegia venusta (Bignoniaceae), seed viability and post-seminal development). The effect of light and temperature on the germination of Pyrostegia venusta (Ker Gawl.) Miers was studied by isothermic incubations. The seeds of this species do not present photoblastism, and can germinate equally in the presence and absence of light. The minimum temperature for germination is between 10 and 15 °C and the maximum between 35 and 40 °C. The germination rate was higher at 35 °C, despite the fact that no statistically significant differences in the germinability were observed at 25, 30 and 35 °C. At 25 °C, germination initiates at the 7 th day, while the development of the first pair of leaves occurs after 22 days of experiment. The seeds viability is better maintained when these are stored in glass containers at low temperatures. Germination in a wide range of temperature, and the absence of photoblastism allow the species to germinate in open areas and under the canopy, favoring its distribution in the different physiognomies of the Cerrado biome.Key words -Cerrado, germination, Pyrostegia, seed storage, seed viability RESUMO -(Germinação de Pyrostegia venusta (Bignoniaceae), viabilidade de sementes e desenvolvimento pós-seminal). O efeito da luz e da temperatura na germinação de Pyrostegia venusta (Ker Gawl.) Miers foi estudado por meio de incubações isotérmicas. As sementes da espécie não são fotoblásticas, podendo germinar igualmente na presença e na ausência de luz. A temperatura mínima para a germinação está entre 10 e 15 °C e a máxima entre 35 e 40 °C. As maiores taxas de germinação foram obtidas na temperatura de 35 °C, apesar de não haver diferenças estatisticamente significativas na germinabilidade em temperaturas de 25, 30 e 35 °C. A 25 °C, a germinação tem início no 7 o dia, enquanto o desenvolvimento do primeiro par foliar ocorre a partir do 22 o dia de experimento. A viabilidade das sementes é mais bem mantida quando estas são armazenadas em recipientes de vidro a baixas temperaturas. A germinação em uma ampla faixa de temperatura, e a ausência de fotoblastismo permitem que a espécie germine em áreas abertas e sombreadas, propiciando sua distribuição pelas diferentes fisionomias do bioma Cerrado.

Dentre os principais fatores que afetam a germinação de sementes e o desenvolvimento de plântulas, encontra-se a temperatura, que pode afetar as reações bioquímicas que determinam o processo germinativo. Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar diferentes condições de temperaturas na qualidade fisiológica de sementes de maxixe. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, constituído de cinco regimes de temperaturas (20, 25, 30, 35 °C constantes e 20-30 ºC alternada), que consistiram nos tratamentos, com quatro repetições de 50 sementes. As características analisadas foram: germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento radicular, comprimento e massa fresca de plântulas. As temperaturas influenciaram a germinação e o vigor das sementes de maxixe. Temperaturas constantes de 25 e 30 °C mostraram-se mais adequadas para condução dos testes de germinação e avaliação da qualidade fisiológica das sementes. No entanto, a temperatura alternada de 20-30 °C promoveu resultados satisfatórios para a germinação e massa fresca de plântulas.

-(Isothermal seed germination of Adenanthera pavonina). This work reports aspects of seed germination at different temperatures of Adenanthera pavonina L., a woody Southeast Asian Leguminosae. Germination was studied by measuring the fi nal percentages, the rate, the rate variance and the synchronisation of the individual seeds calculated by the minimal informational entropy of frequencies distribution of seed germination. Overlapping the germinability range with the range for the highest values of germination rates and the minimal informational entropy of frequencies distribution of seed germination, we found that the best temperature for the germination of A. pavonina seeds is 35 °C. The slope μ of the Arrhenius plot of the germination rates is positive for T < 35 °C and negative for T > 35 °C. The activation enthalpies, estimated from closely-spaced points, shows that |∆H-| < 12 Cal mol -1 occur for temperatures in the range between 25 °C and 40 °C. The ecological implication of these results are that this species may germinate very fast in tropical areas during the summer season. This may be an advantage to the establishment of this species under the climatic conditions in those areas.
