Effects of 2,4-D Herbicide on Species of the Digitaria Genus

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the 2,4-D herbicide on the growth and development of Digitaria insularis and Digitaria horizontalis plants under different climatic conditions. Two greenhouse experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design, with 11 treatments (rates of the herbicide) and four replications. Rate-response curves were determined for the 2,4-D rates of 0, 50.37, 100.75, 201.5, 403, 806, 1,612, 3,224, 6,448, 12,896, and 25,792 g a.i. ha-1. The plants presented … Show more

“…DM assessment is quantitative and considers the mass acquired during plant development. The effect of auxin herbicides may be similar to endogenous plant auxins and affects the growth (GAZOLA et al, 2019), but it allows ryegrass to survive the application of ACCase inhibiting herbicides. This fact was also observed in the previous experiment; although, antagonism or synergism was not significant for clethodim and clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl (Figure 2B).…”

“…Moreover, the use of auxinic herbicides needs to be done with caution, especially in periods with lower temperatures, since any problems related to the application technology, which allows the contact of Digitaria sp. plants with low doses of these herbicides, will promote the re-growth of these weeds, which will hinder its control and favor the dispersion of this species [77].…”
