The aim of this study was to determine changes in the photosynthetic process and the inhibition of 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPs) by shikimic acid accumulation, after application of the herbicide glyphosate in four biotypes of C. sumatrensis collected in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Therefore, the experiments were conducted under greenhouse and laboratory, assessing plant biomass, photosynthesis rate, transpiration and water use efficiency; the amount of shikimic acid was calculated for each treatment. Glyphosate application reduced growth and affected the photosynthesis rate and water use efficiency of the biotypes differentially, and the resistant biotype had small interference from glyphosate, while physiological parameters of the susceptible biotype were deeply affected by the herbicide. Susceptible biotypes had higher shikimic acid accumulation than the resistant biotype, indicating differential sensitivity of EPSPs to glyphosate between resistant and sensitive biotypes. Key words: Conyza sumatrensis, EPSPs, resistance, shikimic acidEfeito do glyphosate sobre parâmetros fisiológicos de buva RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi determinar alterações no processo fotossintético e na inibição da 5-enolpiruvilchiquimato-3-fosfato sintase (EPSPs), por meio do acúmulo de ácido chiquímico, após a aplicação do herbicida glyphosate, em quatro biótipos de C. sumatrensis coletados no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Para isto foram conduzidos experimentos em casa-de-vegetação e em laboratório avaliando fitomassa seca da parte aérea, taxa de fotossíntese, transpiração e eficiência do uso da água; a quantidade de ácido chiquímico foi calculada para cada tratamento. A aplicação do glyphosate reduziu o crescimento e afetou a taxa de fotossíntese a eficiência do uso da água dos biótipos de forma diferencial, sendo que o biótipo resistente teve pequena interferência do glyphosate enquanto os parâmetros fisiológicos do biótipo suscetível foram profundamente afetados pelo herbicida. Nos biótipos suscetíveis o acúmulo de ácido chiquímico foi maior que no biótipo resistente evidenciando sensibilidade diferencial da EPSPs dos biótipos resistente e sensíveis ao glyphosate. Palavras

-The resistance of weeds to herbicides is a consequence of one or more mechanisms in the plant, responsible for not allowing the herbicide to act properly at the active site. The objective of this study was to investigate the mechanism(s) of resistance to glyphosate in Conyza bonariensis. An experiment was conducted in November and December, 2012 and repeated in February and March, 2013 using a factorial arrangement of the treatments, where the factor A corresponded to biotypes of hairy fleabane, susceptible (S) and resistant (R); the factor B to seven rates of glyphosate from 0 to 11,520 g e.a. ha ). The R biotype of C. bonariensis does not appear to present the sequestration of herbicide in the vacuole as the mechanism of resistance. However, the low accumulation of shikimate by the R biotype characterizes lower sensitivity of EPSPs enzyme to glyphosate, inferring that this is the present mechanism of resistance in plants of C. bonariensis. However, the resistance cannot be associated to a unique mechanism of resistance, requiring further studies to its understanding.Keywords: Conyza bonariensis, temperature, photoperiod, EPSPs. A dessecação é considerada o manejo inicial das lavouras e uma das práticas mais importantes para implantação da cultura da soja no sistema de plantio direto. Com o cultivo de soja transgênica, a utilização de glyphosate aumentou acentuadamente e proporcionou a seleção de Conyza bonariensis resistente a esse herbicida. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia do glyphosate em associação com clorimuron-etílico no controle C. bonariensis resistente ao glyphosate, em estágios crescentes de desenvolvimento. Os oito tratamentos foram constituídos pelo uso associado de 2,5 L ha-1 de glyphosate (1250 g e.a. ha-1) e 60 g ha-1 (15 g i.a. ha-1) de clorimuron-etílico em plantas com 3 folhas, 4 a 6 folhas, 6 a 9 folhas, 10 a 13 folhas, 13 a 16 folhas, 20 folhas, em florescimento e uma testemunha sem aplicação. O delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com seis repetições. Avaliações visuais de controle foram efetuadas aos 7, 15 e 21 dias após a aplicação (DAA), onde também determinou-se a massa seca da parte aérea das plantas. Obteve-se excelentes níveis de controle de C. bonariensis resistente ao glyphosate utilizando a associação de glyphosate + clorimuron-etílico em plantas com até 9 folhas.
