Neoplasmas em suínos: 37 casos

Abstract: Neoplasms in swine are rare. This paper describes neoplasms found in swine in the diagnostic routine of a veterinary pathology laboratory in the Central Region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil during a 49-year period, during which 2,266 cases of the various affections in swine were diagnosed. Of those 37 cases (1.6%) were neoplasms. In decreasing order of prevalence, the following neoplasms were found: lymphoma (11 out of 37 cases), nephroblastoma (11/37), melanoma (8/37), and papilloma (2/37). Adenoma hepatocelul… Show more

“…In histological sections no mites were observed, however it does not mean that any of these cases cannot be sarcoptic mange, as the agent may not be detected in histology (Brewer & Greve 2019). Neoplastic skin diseases represented a low number of diagnoses (1.3%), which was expected, since neoplasms in pigs are rare (Brum et al 2015, Torrison & Cameron 2019. Papilloma occurred in a slaughter pig, with no information on the anatomical location, but it can affect growing pigs, especially around the neck, along the back and in the ears (Torrison & Cameron 2019).…”

“…Papilloma and scrotal hemangioma represented 0.6% each of the total skin lesions diagnosed. Brum et al (2015), in a study on swine neoplasms, diagnosed 2/37 (5.4%) cases of papilloma.…”

“…Nephroblastomas are poorly described in free-living tamarins in South America. In Brazil, these neoplasms are highly prevalent in pigs and poultry during slaughter (Brum et al 2015, Serakides & Silva 2017. The primary renal tumors most commonly described in NHP are adenomas and carcinomas; nephroblastomas are rarely described (Jones & Casey 1981, Zoller et al 2008.…”

“…In domestic pigs, squamous cell papillomas and carcinomas have been reported to occur rarely in white skinned strains. 105 107 Melanomas have been described in darkly colored pigs such as Duroc and Hampshire breeds. 108 There are certain specific minipig strains, namely Sinclair, 109 MeLiM (Melanoma-bearing Libechov Minipigs) also known as Libechov strains 110 and Munchener Miniaturschwein (Troll) minipig strains 111 that frequently develop regressing cutaneous melanomas at a very young age.…”
