Serum neutralization with different types and subtypes of bovine herpesvirus 1 and 5

Abstract: The serum neutralization (SN) test is the gold standard method to measure neutralizing antibodies to bovine herpesviruses. However, in view of the further subdivisions of bovine herpesviruses in types/subtypes, defining which virus to use at challenge in SN tests may be difficult. In view of that, this study was carried out to re-evaluate (SN) sensitivity with different types/subtypes of bovine herpesviruses types 1 (BoHV-1) and 5 (BoHV-5) as challenge viruses. Bovine sera (n=810) were collected from two disti… Show more

“…In addition, particularly in tropical countries, the number of buffalo breeding farms is increasing, in most instances close to, or in conjunction with, bovine cattle farming. The extensive antibody cross-reactivity induced by infections with any of the herpesviruses examined here has already been demonstrated, both here and in previous studies [ 9 , 33 , 35 ]. Moreover, cross-reactive antibodies may interfere with the trade and exports of live animals, where some countries require the animals to be fully seronegative to BoAHV-1.…”

“…A infecção também pode ser diagnosticada através de testes sorológicos do BoHV-1 por ELISA e soro-neutralização (SN) (BASHIR et al, 2011;FLORES, 2007;PARREÑO et al, 2010;ROCHA et aL., 2001). O teste de soroneutralização (SN) é o método padrão para a mensuração de anticorpos neutralizantes para herpesvírus bovino (HOLZ et al, 2010).…”
