Identification of the recently described new type of bovine papillomavirus (BPV-8) in a Brazilian beef cattle herd

Show more

“…However, recently described BPV8, BPV9 and BPV10 were detected suggesting that BPV7 was not present in the samples. BPV8, BPV9 and BPV10 were described in cutaneous lesions in Japan (Tomita et al., 2007; Hatama et al., 2008) and after found in Brazil – BPV8 (Claus et al., 2009a) and India – BPV10 (Rai et al., 2011). BPV9 and BPV10 have not been detected in the American continent yet.…”

“…1,4 Bovine papillomaviruses are classified into 6 distinct types (BPV-1 through BPV-6). 1 However, recent studies 3,6,7,11 indicate the inclusion of new viral types based on the variability of the L1 gene. Bovine papillomavirus-1 (genus Deltapapillomavirus) and BPV-2 infect the epithelium and dermis; BPV-3 (genus Xipapillomavirus), BPV-4, and BPV-6 are usually epitheliotropic; and BPV-5 (genus Epsilonpapillomavirus) infects the epithelia and dermis.…”

“…Investigations in cattle have demonstrated the occurrence of different BPV types in papillomas from various anatomical locations of the same animal (Claus et al 2009). During this study, the multiple sarcoids of horse #1 contained only BPV1 DNA.…”
