Abstract: Excessive weight gain during pregnancy should receive special attention in prenatal care in view of its association with weight retention and excess weight in women after childbirth.

“…This cut off was selected for the regression model because ≥20 lbs of weight retention constituted a more than 10% increase in weight for majority of women in the study, which is clinically relevant and similar to the definition of weight retention used in other recent studies. (13,14) The variables included in each model were based on the results of bivariate analysis.
