Gestação heterotópica: possibilidade diagnóstica após fertilização in vitro. A propósito de um caso

Abstract: Heterotopic gestation, characterized by the presence of combined topic and ectopic gestation, until recently was considered to be a rare event occurring in 1:30,000 pregnancies. With the appearance of assisted reproduction techniques, this incidence increased to 1:100-500 gestations. Early diagnosis is difficult and frequently is made when the uterine tube has already ruptured. It's presented a case of heterotopic pregnancy diagnosed by means of a clinical presentation of hemorrhagic acute abdomen, with good p… Show more

“…Heterotopic pregnancy (HP) is a rare and fatal condition. Its incidence is known to be one in 8,000 to 30,000 in spontaneous conceptions increasing to a rate of 0.2% to 1% in gestations after assisted reproductive technologies [ 1 2 3 ]. However, the detection of HP could be neglected in an infertile woman who underwent single embryo transfer (SET) because this procedure significantly reduces the incidence of twin pregnancies and where twin pregnancies do occur after SET most are monozygotic [ 4 ].…”

“…It was considered a rare event, occurring in approximately 1 in 30,000 patients, until assisted reproduction techniques became prevalent. With the advancement of assisted reproduction, the incidence of heterotopic pregnancy rose to 1 in 100 pregnancies 6. With such a remarkable increase in the incidence of heterotopic pregnancy, there are instances when the initial US may not be diagnostic.…”
