Sustainable forest management requires attention to the protection of occupational safety and health (OSH), in addition to attention to aspects of work productivity, and the welfare of managers/ workers. In Indonesia, these four aspects, which are the main objectives of ergonomics studies, have not received much attention, although forest management activities are activities with a high risk of OSH disorders. This study aims to present an overview of the conditions of physical-mental-social fatigue, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), job satisfaction, perception of hazards sources, and perception toward work accident costs from workers involved in forest management activities in Indonesia. Fatigue status was measured using the Cumulative Fatigue Symptom Index (CFSI) and MSDs were investigated using Standardized Nordic Questionnaire (SNQ). Job satisfaction, perception of the source of danger, and the cost of accidents were traced using questionnaires and interviews (face to face, open and semi-structured questions). Data were taken from 98 respondents consisting of forest rangers, forest inventory workers, logging supervisors, and administrative staff during February 2016-October 2017. The CFSI analysis shows that forest guarding and forest inventory have caused intense physical and mental fatigue (in the form of excessive anxiety). The SNQ analysis confirms intense MSDs complaints at the waist, back, neck, shoulders, and arm. The general characteristics of the respondents were having: (1) limited financial capacity, (2) inadequate knowledge to recognize various potential hazards sources at work, and (3) inappropriate understanding of the concept of accident costs. The limitations on the respondents' cognitive, has made participatory OSH mechanisms alone (to improve OSH protection) is not an appropriate option. Efforts to improve OHS protection should be carried out in the form of (1) improving workplace facilities (health facilities, social and communication facilities, accessibility), (2) improving remuneration, and (3) improving knowledge on the concepts of the source of hazards and accident cost. RESUMOObjetivou-se avaliar a prevalência de distúrbios osteomusculares relacionados ao trabalho em lavadeiras no município de Caicó-RN. Estudo de campo, exploratório-descritivo com abordagem quantitativa foi realizado com uma amostra de 45 lavadeiras, determinada mediante amostra não probabilística por conveniência. Os dados foram coletados a partir de questionários e analisados no SPSS 21.0. Utilizou-se de estatísticas descritivas de frequência e porcentagem, além de média, desvio padrão, mediana, valores mínimos e máximos. Adicionalmente, foram utilizados testes inferenciais. Observou-se a exclusividade de mulheres trabalhadoras e constatou-se a maior frequência de acometimento por distúrbios osteomusculares nas regiões de mãos/punho e cotovelos (22,2% e 46,7%). Quanto aos problemas osteomusculares relacionados ao trabalho, o mais associado foi o dos punhos ou mãos (95,6%), seguido dos cotovelos (62,2%) e pescoço/região cervical (53,3%). Houve queixas osteomusculares em toda a amostra, havendo correlação entre as regiões acometidas e seu uso para a realização das atividades laborais desenvolvidas pelas lavadeiras. Descritores ABSTRACTThis study aimed to assess the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders related to work washerwomen in the city of Caico-RN. Field of study, exploratory and descriptive with quantitative approach was conducted with a sample of 45 washerwomen, determined by non-probabilistic convenience sample. Data were collected from questionnaires and analyzed by SPSS. We used descriptive statistics of frequency and percentage, as well, the mean, standard deviation, median, minimum and maximum values. Additionally, inferential tests were used. There was the uniqueness of working women and found that the higher frequency of involvement by musculoskeletal disorders in the areas of hand / wrist and elbows (22.2% and 46.7%). As for musculoskeletal problems related to work, the more associated was the wrists or hands (95.6%), followed by elbows (62.2%) and neck / cervical region (53.3%). There were musculoskeletal complaints in the whole sample, there is correlation between the regions involved and its use for the realization of the developed industrial activities of washerwomen.

Work Precariousness: Ergonomic Risks to Operators of Machines Adapted for Forest Harvesting

-This study aimed to assess different types of machines adapted for mechanized forest harvesting activities in order to quantify the degree of compliance with ergonomic principles applicable to forest machines, as well as the ergonomic risks to which workers are exposed. The following machines were evaluated: a feller buncher adapted into a wheel loader; a mini skidder coupled to an agricultural tractor; and a forest loader adapted to an agricultural tractor; operating in the states of Paraná and Minas Gerais. Biomechanical working conditions were assessed by applying a checklist for simplified assessment of the workplace biomechanical conditions. The forced postures assessment was performed using the REBA -"Rapid Entire Body Assessment" method. In turn, ergonomic classification was through guidelines contained in the ergonomic classification manual "Ergonomic Guidelines for Forest Machines". Moreover, the environmental factors noise, temperature and vibration to which the operators of these machines were exposed were assessed. The results showed all assessed machines had ergonomic standards below those indicated in all assessed aspects, mainly related to access and dimensions of the workplace, need to adopt forced postures during working hours, and exposure to environmental factors assessed above tolerance limits. It is concluded that machines adapted for use in forest harvesting processes have shown significant gaps in relation to ergonomic aspects, presenting high and imminent risk of development of occupational diseases in their operators.Keywords: Forest operations; Forest mechanization; Occupational health. PRECARIZAÇÃO DO TRABALHO: RISCOS ERGONÔMICOS AOS OPERADORES DE MÁQUINAS ADAPTADAS PARA COLHEITA FLORESTALRESUMO -Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar diferentes tipos de máquinas adaptadas para as atividades de colheita florestal mecanizada, de forma a quantificar o grau de atendimento aos princípios ergonômicos aplicáveis às máquinas florestais, bem como os riscos ergonômicos aos quais os trabalhadores estão expostos. Foram avaliadas as seguintes máquinas: um feller buncher adaptado em uma pá carregadeira de rodas; um mini skidder acoplado a um trator agrícola; e um carregador florestal adaptado a um trator agrícola; operando nos estados do Paraná e Minas Gerais. As condições biomecânicas do trabalho foram avaliadas através da aplicação de um check-list para avaliação simplificada das condições biomecânicas do posto de trabalho. A avaliação das posturas forçadas foi realizada utilizando o método REBA -"Rapid Entire Body Assessment". Por sua vez, a classificação ergonômica foi através das diretrizes contidas no manual de classificação ergonômica "Ergonomic Guidelines for Forest Machines". Ainda, foram avaliados os fatores ambientais ruído, temperatura e vibração aos quais os operadores destas máquinas estavam expostos.
