“…The forest formations of the Algodoal-Maiandeua APA restinga were described based on Amaral et al (2008) and Senna & Bastos (2009) (Jardim & Vieira 2001;Batista et al 2011;Maués et al 2011).…”

“…Our taxonomy follow Haston et al (2009). To quantify abundance and biomass of açaí palms we followed the methodology of Batista et al (2011) in measuring the mean height and mean DBH of all the stems (ramets) per clump (genet) of each açaí palm. This method avoids overestimating abundance, given that the stems represent shoots from one 'mother' plant (Queiroz and Machado, 2008).…”

“…Santos et al, 2004;Batista et al, 2011), however the impact of varying E. oleracea Mart (henceforth 'açaí') densities on ecosystem processes in estuarine floodplains have yet to be assessed (Jardim et al, 2004). Some specific studies have indicated the potential for trade-offs between açaí production and the biodiversity value of managed várzea forests.…”

“…One type of these forests is largely dominated by M. flexuosa and another palm, Euterpe oleracea, followed by Virola (Myristicaceae), Tapirira (Anacardiaceae), Inga (Fabaceae), Pterocarpus (Fabaceae) and Ficus (Moraceae) (Batista et al, 2011).…”
