Changes in soil use and management can affect the soil aggregation, including aggregate formation by biogenic and physicogenic processes. The aim of this study was to analyze physical and biological influences on the genesis of soil aggregates in areas with different vegetations in the Atlantic Forest, as well as to compare physical and chemical attributes of the aggregates formed in different ways. Undeformed soil samples were collected from a depth of 0-10 cm from second-growth forests at different successional stages and a pasture area. To identify the pathways of aggregation we used morphological patterns proposed by Bullock et al. (1985), and established three clusters: physicogenic, biogenic, and intermediates. The aggregates were analyzed for stability, exchangeable cations, distribution of total organic carbon (TOC), and oxidizable fractions of total organic carbon. In all areas evaluated, the percentage of physicogenic aggregates was higher than that of biogenic and intermediate aggregates.The biogenic aggregates with the highest mean weight diameter (MWD) and geometric mean diameter (GMD) were recorded for samples from the second-growth forest at an advanced stage of succession (SFAS) and from the mixed managed pasture (MMP) sites (MWD: 4.520 mm and 4.896 mm; GMD: 3.678 mm and 4.479 mm, respectively). The biogenic aggregates presented higher levels of K and P compared to the other morphological types in all areas studied, with higher P levels in the SFAS area. The TOC content was also higher in the biogenic aggregates in all study areas, with 22.33 g kg -1 in SFAS, 25.60 g kg -1 in the site with second-growth forest at the middle stage (SFMS) of succession, 24.74 g kg -1 in the site with second-growth forest at the initial stage (SFIS) of succession, and 20.28 g kg -1 in MMP. The highest content of the fractions F1 (6.93 g kg -1 ) and F2 (7.43 g kg -1 ) were found in the biogenic class compared to the intermediate and physicogenic aggregates. The biological aggregation process was the most efficient process in terms of soil structural stability and carbon sequestration, and biogenic aggregates may be considered indicators of soil quality. RESUMO -Os objetivos deste trabalho foram quantificar a biomassa e a estocagem de carbono em uma Floresta Estacional Semidecidual,com área de 44,11 ha, localizado no Parque Tecnológico de Viçosa, MG e avaliar as diferenças entre as metodologias de quantificação de biomassa propostas pelo Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudanças do Clima (IPCC) e utilizando equações regionais. Para a quantificação da biomassa e estocagem de carbono da área utilizou-se duas metodologias distintas, uma com equações regionais e outra sugerida pelo IPCC. Os estoques totais de biomassa e de carbono foram de 116,98 t ha -1 e 56,31 t ha -1 ,respectivamente, pela metodologia de equações regionais, considerando os valores acima e abaixo do solo, sub-bosque e serapilheira. E pela metodologia sugerida pelo IPCC, os estoques totais de biomassa e de carbono foram de 107,59 t ha -1 e 48,70 t ha -1 , respectivamente. De acordo com os resultados a metodologia do IPCC subestimou a biomassa e o carbono em relação às equações regionais.Palavras-chave: Mata Atlântica; Sequestro de carbono; Metodologias de quantificação de carbono. ResumoA obtenção de dados que caracterizam determinado fragmento florestal esbarra na dificuldade de processamento dos dados, nos altos custos demandados e no elevado tempo gasto com os inventários tradicionais. O uso de técnicas de Processamento Digital de Imagens (PDI), utilizando dados de sensoriamento remoto para estimar variáveis florestais, pode ser ferramenta útil e eficaz na complementação do inventário de campo. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a viabilidade da utilização de imagens multiespectrais do sensor OLI Landsat 8, através de análise de regressão com dados de campo, para a estimativa de parâmetros florestais. Para isso foi realizado inventário com objetivo de obter os parâmetros florestais: Diâmetro à Altura do Peito (DAP); área basal (G); altura total (Ht); número de árvores (N) e volume de madeira (V). Na etapa de PDI, foram utilizados os valores de reflectância e os índices de vegetação NDVI e SAVI nos pixels que abrangiam as parcelas do inventário, seguidos das análises de correlação entre as bandas e os parâmetros florestais. Em seguida foram feitos o ajuste dos modelos de regressão linear múltipla para a espacialização dos dados. Os melhores resultados, referentes aos valores de R² aj , para os modelos de DAP; G; Ht; N e V, foram de 0,57; 0,66; 0,16; 0,34 e 0,49, respectivamente. Os resultados permitem concluir sobre uso potencial da metodologia na estimação das variáveis DAP, G e V com uso do NDVI e das bandas referentes ao verde, vermelho e infravermelho médio. The obtaining of data that characterize certain forest fragment comes up against the difficult of data processing, high costs and demanded time spent with forest inventories. The use of image Digital Processing Techniques (DPT) with remote sensing data to estimate forest variables can be useful and effective tool to complement the field inventory. This study aimed to evaluate the viability of the utilization the multispectral images from OLI Landsat 8 sensor through regression analysis with field data for estimation of forest parameters. For this, it was done an inventory in order to get the forest parameters: diameter at breast height (DBH); basal area (G); total height (Ht); number of trees (N) and timber volume (V). In DPT step, they were used the reflectance and the NDVI and SAVI vegetation index values from the pixels that cover the plots of the inventory and after it was conducted the correlation analysis among bands and forest parameters. Finally, they were made the adjustment of multiples linear regression models for spatialization data. The best results related to R² aj values for models of DBH; G; Ht; N; and V, were 0.57; 0.66; 0.16; 0.34 and 0.49, respectively.
