ResumoEste estudo tem como objetivo testar modelos matemáticos com o fim de gerar estimativas do peso seco de cada compartimento da biomassa seca de Nectandra grandiflora, a partir de variáveis de fácil mensuração. Os dados utilizados são provenientes da Estação Experimental da UFPR em São João do Triunfo, localizada no centro-sul do estado do Paraná. Foram utilizados dados de peso seco total e parcial de 30 árvores de canela-amarela, que foram obtidos por meio de determinações diretas pelo método destrutivo. De cada árvore amostrada foram medidos também o CAP (circunferência à altura do peito), o diâmetro de copa e a altura total. Os resultados mostraram que os modelos para estimativa de peso seco de folhagem não se mostraram satisfatórios, enquanto para galhos e raízes os ajustes foram apenas razoáveis para alguns dos modelos, embora os erros padrões das estimativas tenham sido sempre superiores a 20%. Concluiu-se que as biomassas secas, total e do fuste, podem ser estimadas com qualidade, o mesmo não ocorrendo com a folhagem. Já para raízes e galhos, os ajustes podem ser estimados razoavelmente dentro de limites observados nos indicadores estatísticos R 2 e erro padrão da estimativa. Palavras chave: Alometria; equações; Floresta Ombrófila Mista. Abstract Equation of biomass estimate for individual tree of Nectandra grandifloraNess. This study aimed at testing mathematical models to provide estimates of dry weight of each biomass pool for Nectandra grandiflora as functions of variables of easy measurement. Data came from the Federal University of Paraná Experimental Station at São João do Triunfo, in the middle-southern Paraná State, Brazil. A total of 30 trees were felled to collect biomass data. The procedure consisted of weighting separately each biomass pool (bole, foliage, branches and roots) both with its natural humidity and dried under controlled conditions. From each sampled tree the girth at breast height (cap), crown diameter and total height were taken. Biomass of branches and roots may be reasonably estimated from some of the tested models. However, the estimates of dry biomass of the bole and the whole tree (total) were fairly adequate. It was concluded that bole and total dry biomass of this species can be adequately represented by the models tested, providing good estimates, whereas branches and roots may be estimated reasonably with some of the equations and foliage is poorly represented by the dependent variables analyzed in this research dry weight. While heat and humidity are known for causing oxidative macromolecular cell damage related seed deterioration during storage under subtropical conditions, information on effect of UV radiation that is also known to cause bio-molecular as well as direct hit damage in plants is largely lacking. A study involving measurements of UV irradiance in seed storage and also over open fields during seed maturation reveals an inverse correlation between genetically conferred (varietally expressed) content of non-enzymatic antioxidant viz flavonoids (functioning also as successors) and seed deterioration during post harvest storage. The data shows that extent of cell damage and thus seed viability is related to the varietal difference in flavonoids accumulation in mature rice seed. Low storer/viable varieties show lower content of flavonoids and higher oxidative damage in stored seed.
