Aristolactams and further constituents from Aristolochia chamissonis

Abstract: From the ethanol extract of the stems of Aristolochia chamissonis, spathulenol, sitosterol, beta-sitosteryl-D-glucoside, kolavelool, 13-epi-2-oxo-kolavelool, trans-N-p-coumaroyltyramine, allantoin, aristolochic acid I, and aristolactam AII were isolated. The structures of aristolactam AII and piperolactam A have been revised by means of spectroscopic methods and chemical derivatizations.

“…After chromatographic purification, compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from subfractions A3 and A4, respectively. Compound 1 was identified to be aristolactam AII based on its spectroscopic data and with direct comparison with those previously reported by Tsuruta et al [28] and Lin et al [29]. Similarly, compound 2 was assigned to be aristolactam BII previously reported by Lin et al [29].…”

“…After successive chromatographic procedures on the acetone extract from A. orbicularis roots, 32 compounds were isolated, of which six (compounds 1 – 6 ) have not been reported previously. The 26 known compounds were identified as (4 S ,8 R )- p -menth-1-en-9-ol, caryophyllene β-oxide, madoline R, 3β-acetyl-Δ 7 -sitosterol, , syringic acid, squalene, 3,5-dimethoxysalicilic acid, β-amyrin, α-caryophyllenol, trans -triacontyl-4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamate, β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-nitroethane, , ferulic acid, the lignans savinin, hinokinin, and pluviatolide, previously isolated from Aristolochia constricta , dehydrohinokinin, an inseparable diastereomeric mixture of 7′ S -parabenzlactone and 7′ R -parabenzlactone, an inseparable diastereomeric mixture of 8 R ,8′ R ,9 S -cubebin and 8 R ,8′ R ,9 R -cubebin, also previously isolated from A. lagesiana and A. pubescens , 6α-hydroxy-β-eudesmol (β-chenopodiol), 4(15)-eudesmene-1β,6α-diol, ursolic acid, and the aristolochic acid derivatives aristololactam AII, aristololactam BI (taliscanine), and aristololactam BIII . The structures of all these compounds were identified based on a comparison of their physical and spectroscopic data with literature values.…”

“…Interestingly, all these compounds, except polycarpol, have been isolated from the genus Anonidium for the first time. In addition, two semisynthetic derivatives were obtained by acetylating compounds 4 and 6 [Scheme 1]: aristolactam BII acetylate 9 and aristolactam AII diacetylate 10, [26] respectively. The former is described here for the first time.…”
