Abstract: Occurrence of bacterial blotch caused by Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli in Cucumis melo var. cantalupensis in Brazil Bacterial blotch, caused by Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli, is reported for the first time in Brazil, in 'melão-pepino' Cucumis melo var. cantalupensis, a cucurbit grown, in the county of Baraúna, the main melon producer in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. To our knowledge this is also the first ocurrence of this disease, in this host, in the world.

“…Bacterial fruit blotch represents a potential risk to watermelon crop production in Brazil because isolates of A. citrulli from melon are pathogenic to watermelon (Oliveira et al 2007;Walcott et al 2004). Furthermore, crops of these two cucurbits are often found in the same area, and the bacterium survives in volunteer seedlings and various alternative hosts found in cultivation areas (Nascimento et al 2004;Oliveira et al 2003;Robbs et al 1991).…”
