Chlorophenols in tap water from wells and surface sources in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: method validation and analysis

Abstract: Recebido em 18/7/11; aceito em 24/10/11; publicado na web em 4/1/12Two analytical methods were validated for determination of trichlorophenols, tetrachlorophenols and pentachlorophenol in drinking water. Limits of quantification were at least ten times lower than maximum permissible levels set by the Brazilian legislation, which are 200 ng mL -1 for 2,4,6-trichlorophenol and 9 ng mL -1 for pentachlorophenol. Chlorophenol levels were determined in tap water collected in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. 2,4,6… Show more

“…HPs were detected in waters for human consumption in concentrations between 0.010 and 0.486 µg·L −1 in Poland [ 46 ], between 0.008 and 0.238 µg·L −1 in Rio de Janeiro [ 47 ], and on average 0.06 µg·L −1 in Tunisia [ 48 ]. In the present study, we did not detect HPs in swimming pools or water for human consumption.…”

“…There is a need to treat these GW and SW before drinking while maintaining regular assessment of these water sources.drinking water (Sonawane and Korake, 2016). In Brazil, the Brazilian potability standard for drinking water set the maximum permissible level for 2,4,6-TCP at 200 ng L − 1 (Sartori et al, 2012). However, there is a dearth of data on the presence of these phenolic compounds in water bodies and drinking water sources in Africa, even though these compounds are vastly used in industries and particularly for agricultural purposes in the continent.…”
