Abstract: Recebido em 4/11/05; aceito em 14/6/06; publicado na web em 10/1/07 TITRIMETRIC METHOD FOR PHOSPHITE DETERMINATION IN AGRICULTURAL CHEMICAL SAMPLES. A new titrimetric method for the determination of phosphite in fertilizer samples, based on reaction of H 3 PO 3 with standard iodine solution in neutral media, is proposed. Diluted samples containing ca. 0.4% m/v P 2 O 5 are heated and titrated with 0.05 mol L -1 iodine standard until the solution becomes faint yellow. Back titration is also feasible: a slight ex… Show more

“…Accuracy was checked applying the proposed procedure to the direct determination of phosphite in seven commercial fertilizer samples. All samples were also analyzed by spectrophotometry [11] and titrimetry [17]. Others analytical characteristics such as the limit of detection, reagent and sample consumption, dispersion, lifetime of working electrode, analytical frequency, parameters of the calibration curve (linear correlation, linear and angular coefficients) were also evaluated.…”

“…This cumbersomeness was circumvented after development of a new sensor based on a graphite electrode modified with a palladium-platinumpalladium film by a sequential cathodic deposition of palladium, platinum, and palladium on a graphite electrode (12). The determination of phosphite by classical titrimetry using iodine as titrant was proposed recently (13), but the identification of the end point, manifested by the appearance of faint yellow, was considered the main drawback of the method. This shortcoming could be avoided if a simple and low cost sensor were used to monitor the reaction between phosphite and iodine.…”
