-The southernmost region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has emerged as one of the major poles for fine grape production (Vitis vinifera) for wine processing. In this region, grapevine rust mite (Calepitrimerus vitis) is one of the major pests for the culture; however, information is lacking about production losses caused by this species and acaricides for its control. In this paper, the acaricide effect of azadarachtin, boron + nitrogen on orange peel oil, sulfur and spirodiclofen on C. vitis on Merlot cultivar commercial grapevine was evaluated and production losses caused by the presence of the mite were estimated. The experiment was conducted during the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 growing seasons, comparing the infestation levels of C. vitis and phytoseiid mites on plants treated with acaricides by the use of sticky traps. The acaricides evaluated caused a significant drop in the population of C. vitis, and spirodiclofen was the most effective, followed by sulfur, while boron + nitrogen and azadarachtin were the less effective. The products evaluated did not affect the phytoseiid population present in the experimental area. The grape production in parcels treated with spirodiclofen was significantly greater (7.430 ± 871kg.ha -1 ) than in the uncontrolled parcel (6.074 ± 316kg.ha -1 ). Significant differences in the total sourness, pH, sugar percentage, and total sugar content of grapes between treated parcels and control were not observed. The control of C. vitis with spirodiclofen and sulfur is effective to reduce losses on yield and will not affect the population of Phytoseiids. The control of C. vitis should be carried out at the beginning of infestation with rotation of active ingredients. Commercial cultivation of grapes (Vitis sp.) is expanding in the semi-arid region of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) state, Brazil. However, one of the key aspects for successful grapevine cultivation is a knowledge of the pests affecting the crop, especially in regions where cultivation is recent and in the initial phase of expansion. Consequently, the study objective was to conduct the first-ever study of damage by bees to grapes in the semi-arid state of Rio Grande do Norte, and to quantify the losses caused by the attack. The study occurred in a vinyard planted with 'Itália' and 'Isabel' varieties, located in a semiarid region of RN, in the Mossoró municipality. Studies quantifying damage occurred in the dry season (August -September 2014) and rainy season (February -March 2015). The bees Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae) and Trigona spinipes Fabricius (Hymenoptera: Apidae) were observed to cause damage to bunches of grapes only during the dry period of the year. The bees caused significant losses in the 'Isabel' and 'Italia' varieties, with 75.94 and 72.11% of bunches having more than 5% of grapes damaged, respectively. Resumo:No semiárido do Rio Grande do Norte (RN), a implantação de pomares de videira (Vitis sp.) encontra-se em expansão. Entretanto, um dos aspectos fundamentais para o sucesso durante o cultivo da videira é o conhecimento das pragas que acometem a cultura, especialmente em regiões nas quais o cultivo é recente e tende a aumentar, como no estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Portanto, objetivou-se com este trabalho relatar pela primeira vez abelhas ocasionando danos a frutos de uva, no semiárido do estado do Rio Grande do Norte, e quantificar as perdas provocadas pelo ataque. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em um pomar cultivado com videiras das variedades 'Itália' e 'Isabel', situado em uma região semiárida, no município de Mossoró (RN). Para verificar as injúrias nos frutos, provocadas pelas abelhas, foram realizadas avaliações no pomar de videira durante duas safras, uma no período seco (agosto -setembro de 2014) e outra no período chuvoso (fevereiro -março de 2015). Constatou-se que as abelhas Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae) e Trigona spinipes Fabricius (Hymenoptera: Apidae) ocasionaram danos em cachos de uva apenas no período seco do ano. As abelhas ocasionam perdas significativas nas variedades Isabel e Itália, com 75,94 e 72,11% dos cachos com mais de 5% das bagas injuriadas, respectivamente.Palavras-chave: Apis mellifera.
