Viability of liquid medium-inoculation of Rhizobium etli in planting furrows with common bean

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the viability of liquid medium inoculation of Rhizobium etli in the planting furrow and to certify the efficiency of its strain UFLA 02-100 as a potential inoculant for common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). The treatments consisted of three application rates of liquid inoculant applied in the planting furrows or in common bean seed, besides two controls without inoculation. The inoculant contained 109 cells of Rhizobium etli mL-1. Regardless of the application method, the… Show more

“…Moreover, according to Campo et al (2010), inoculation in the planting furrow reduced the deleterious effect of seed treatments with tolylfluanid + thiophanate-methyl, and the best performances were obtained from concentrations of up to 2.5 million cells of Bradyrhizobium per soybean seed. Specifically for common bean, only one publication considered inoculation in the planting furrow (Oliveira et al, 2018). Although they conducted a preliminary trial with a strain not yet recommended for this plant species, the authors found similar efficiency in the planting furrow method and fertilization with 80 kg N-urea ha −1 .…”

“…Productivity varied between countries, with some producing hundreds of kg [ 35 ], while others a few thousand kg per ha [ 51 , 53 , 55 , 56 , 57 ]. For example, Oliveira et al [ 51 ] obtained 1975 kg ha −1 with the inoculation of R. tropici , which was comparable to the control with 80 kg N ha −1 .…”
