Show more

“…The recent detection of H. armigera (CZEPAK et al, 2013;EMBRAPA 2013;SPECHT et al, 2013), previously not reported in the American continent become another important aspect for agriculture in Brazil. H. armigera is reported to feed in more than 300 native and cultivated host plants (LIU et al, 2004).…”

“…MARQUES & LAMAS, 2006). Anyway, the lack of taxonomists was directly related to the delay in the report of H. armigera in Brazil, which has affected high value crops such as cotton and soybean (CZEPAK et al, 2013;EMBRAPA 2013;SPECHT et al, 2013). This indicates the vulnerability of Brazil and other countries in South America concerning the change of the status of native arthropod species, due to climate change, the invasion risk of quarantine pests, management, and the introduction of new crops or cultivars.…”

“…Recently, the cotton bollworm Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), which is a cosmopolite and polyphagous pest, has been introduced in Brazil (Czepak, Albernaz, Vivan, Guimarães, & Carvalhais, 2013;Specht, Sosa-Gómez, Paula-Moraes, & Yano, 2013;Gómez et al, 2016). Since then, it has been causing losses in the production of several crops including cotton, corn, soybean, and tomatoes (Bueno, Yamamoto, Carvalho, & Bueno, 2014;Czepak et al, 2013;Mastrangelo et al, 2014;Pratissoli, Lima, Pirovani, & Lima, 2015;Tay et al, 2013).…”

“…The larvae were collected manually (n =301) in a random transversal "zigzag" sampling as described by CORRÊA-FERREIRA et al (2014) and were individually maintained in polyethylene cups (80 ml) with artificial diet (GREENE et al 1976) until the emergence of moths or parasitoids. All emerged moths were identified as H. armigera comparing their genitalia (HARDWICK 1965, SPECHT et al 2013. Likewise, the parasitized larvae or pupae were identified as H. armigera comparing the larval and pupal exuvia with reference material of H. armigera and Helicoverpa zea (Boddie, 1850) maintained in the Laboratório de Entomologia (Embrapa Cerrados).…”
