Availability of soil water under tillage systems, mulch management and citrus rootstocks

Abstract: SUMMARYThe increased availability of soil water is important for the management of non-irrigated orange orchards. The objective of this study was to evaluate the availability of soil water in a Haplorthox (Rhodic Ferralsol) under different tillage systems used for orchard plantation, mulch management and rootstocks in a "Pêra" orange orchard in northwest Paraná, Brazil. An experiment in a split-split-plot design was established in 2002, in an area cultivated with Brachiaria brizantha grass in which three tilla… Show more

“…Since SWRC and SRC were determined for a range of matric potentials, the high SR variability (CV > 79 %) was due to the wide variation in the soil water content. These results are consistent with those of other studies (Silva et al, 1994;Fidalski et al, 2010b) and highlight the fundamental role of θ to prevent the soil from reaching limiting the SR values for plant growth.…”

“…A umidade do solo nos camalhões do plantio convencional diferiu estatisticamente dos camalhões do plantio direto, assim como as médias das entrelinhas também indicaram valores diferentes. Esta variação pode ser atribuída à biomassa da superfície do solo, conforme discutido por Fidalski et al 2010), ou ainda pela remobilização do solo no plantio convencional.…”
