The study attempted to understand the feelings of people who have survived cancer, through qualitative research with Heidegger's phenomenological approach. The study subjects were five cancer survivors, followed up during 2004 and 2005 through a university extension project in the northwestern region of the state of Paraná. Phenomenological interviews were held to capture the survivors' feelings, at their homes, during January and February 2013. "How is it for you to have survived cancer?" was the orienting question. Four ontological issues emerged from the analysis of their discourses: (re-) remembering the vigor of having been; (re-) encountering spirituality; fear of the disease's recurrence; forgetting the temporality of living with cancer. We conclude that, in their being-healed, patients live with anxiety, that throws them into a distressing state for fear of recurrence, as well as enabling them to find a new meaning to life.

ResumoCuidados paliativos são uma abordagem especializada prestada por equipe multidisciplinar que atua no controle rigoroso dos sintomas e na melhoria da qualidade de vida de pessoas que têm suas vidas ameaçadas por doenças sem possibilidades terapêuticas. Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura através da base de dados LILACS, com seleção de 34 artigos para análise. Teve por objetivo caracterizar e sintetizar a produção científica da enfermagem brasileira sobre cuidados paliativos, publicada entre 2010 e 2014 na base de dados LILACS. Os resultados apontam que o maior quantitativo de artigos foi publicado no ano 2012; o periódico com mais publicações foi "Ciência, Cuidado e Saúde"; a região Sudeste apresentou maior número de publicações; a abordagem mais frequente foi a qualitativa; a maior parte dos autores têm a titulação doutor; houve predominância de artigos desenvolvidos por quatro autores ou mais. The research remarks the importance of training professionals capable of handling the subjectivity required to palliative care. This is a qualitative study, with an exploratory and descriptive approach. It aims to explain and analyze the experience of undergraduate medical and nursing students in palliative care, identifying the challenges and understanding the formative requirements for this type of care. It was possible to identify five aspects that make up the experience: change in the perception about palliative care, identification with the patients and their family, rationalization and awareness process, palliative care education and practice learning and multidisciplinary work. The study shows the importance of practice activities in palliative care learning, the valorization of the multidisciplinary teams, the suffering involved in the process of self-identification with the end-of-life patient and the cycle of empathy and estrangement resulting in the emotional maturity needed in palliative care.
