Avaliação do desenvolvimento inicial de crianças nascidas pré-termo

Abstract: Preterm birth is an event that affects the child's healthy development. Several studies have addressed the evaluation of children born preterm and the influence that multiple risk factors have on the course of their development. This study performed a systematic review of the literature from 2000 to 2005 about the evaluation of the development of children born preterm until the age of 24 months. The biological risk factors were present in every study, with highlights on intraventricular hemorrhage, necrotizing… Show more

“…Infants born with Gestational Age (GA) <37 weeks are considered premature (2) . In this group, neonates are classified as follows: Late Preterm (GA between 34 and 36 weeks), Moderately Preterm (GA between 30 and 33 weeks), and Extreme Preterm (GA <30 weeks).…”

“…We highlight the pairs of twins practically were the same chronologic age (only a month difference) in the post intervention assessment. A study 8 with phonologic intervention in twins verified evolution in the phonologic system and observed similarity for the premature aiming at the prevention of malformations and identification of atypical development predictor variables 18 .…”

“…Children who live surrounded by biological and psychic risks in their first years of life are more likely to developing problems which can affect their development 11 . Furthermore, studies 6,18 indicate prematurity as having a predictive value for delay in the motor and cognitive development. Although the two pairs of twins were born premature, S1/S2 were extreme premature (being born in the 27 th gestation week).…”

“…There is a diverse range of study methodology, with variable results when the performance of premature and full term newborn infants are compared, and emphasis is on evaluating the development of premature infants within a risk context aimed at preventing deficiencies and at identifying variables that predict abnormal development. 5 One feature that has received little attention in development studies is the age at which motor abilities are acquired, especially sitting and walking, which can exhibit great variation among healthy children and may be delayed among premature children. 6 The objective of this study was therefore to determine the chronological and corrected ages at which preterm infants born weighing less than 1500 g and free from neurosensory sequelae acquire their motor abilities and to evaluate up to what point it is necessary to use age correction.…”
