“…A systematic review of HIV–hepatitis co-infection in sub-Saharan Africa reported a prevalence of 15% for HBV and 7% for HCV [26]. In Brazil, a study on HIV, HCV and HBV co-infections reported a prevalence of 4·4% which is comparable to our study [21]. The majority of HIV/AIDS–hepatitis co-infected individuals in our study were male [23] and of Black [23] or Other race groups.…”

“…An HIV/AIDS individual was categorized as co-infected if he/she had been concurrently infected with confirmed hepatitis B or hepatitis C virus (acute and chronic) based on the CDC case definition [17–20] and residing in the state of Michigan during the period 2006–2009. The rationale for creating the co-infection variable was based on the fact that the three diseases share similar routes of transmission [21]. Any HIV/AIDS case which had a diagnosis of acute or chronic hepatitis B or C before 2006 was excluded from the study.…”

“…From 2010 to 2018, 751 patients with chronic HCV received a therapeutic regimen in the RH/AME complex; from 2015 to 2018, genotypes 1a and 1b were the most prevalent among the 197 patients investigated, a result previously found in patients infected with HCV who were followed in the RH from 2000 to 2006 [ 15 ]. Similar results were found in a survey representative of the whole country, which showed that genotype 1a was more prevalent in the south, southeast, and central regions, whereas genotype 1b was more prevalent in the northern regions [ 16 ].…”

“…16 In the western region, all inmates diagnosed with HIV are treated and are followed by specialists in reference centres in Presidente Prudente. 17 18 Prevalence of 1.8% was detected in a prison in São Paulo state. 8 In a prospective study of 3362 inmates from 12 prisons in the central-west region of Brazil in 2013, a prevalence of 1.6% was found.…”
